This is possibly the best post I have ever seen here. I almost pissed my pants dude, hilarious.
I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.
I just wanna call out a certain twitter response to Greenberg that suggested a significant, nay deliberate, undertracking bias against MS here at VGC, and I wanna say he better come here and be contrite to ioi et al for casting aspersions on their good names.
Brilliant job ioi and VGC.
But really it makes it all the more unfathomable that Greenberg felt compelled to diss VGC's week 1 for Americas and then a second time to diss the 10 day LTD. For what could be as little as a 5% difference between estimated and actual the fuss made to discredit VGC seems to be a totally disproportionate response.
Keep the faith people. VGC numbers are nearly always within range. If ioi is pulling numbers out of his arse then he must have a pretty amazing arse; not that I'm interested in finding out for myself.

Yep, the secret's out: this is how they are reporting their sales as "sold to customers" and not "shipped to retailers" like... oh, I don't know: EVERYONE else?
And here some people were thinking that MS sales reports were just being all special and on top of things. "Wow, MS reports numbers based on installed user base? How do they do it?!"

Even NPD took a month buffer before reporting sales numbers.
One week, ten days, two weeks is a pretty tight time table to estimate the launch of a major new product given a limited sample of information.
Give the numbers about a month to normalize and allow for corrections before jumping to any conclusions.

Meaning what? VGC numbers align as precisely as you can get with MS's own reportage, and given their diss'ing of VGC one must conclude that they're reporting their own independant data. 2 data reports showing good correlation means actual 10 day sales worldwide are for sure within 5-10% of VGC's reported figure, which is very accurate. I highly doubt there will be much refning of these first 10 day numbers. Time will tell of VGC will be as accurate over the rest of the holidays but ioi has made a damn good start. It's not gonna see the sort of revision that Move got.
Unlike some I don't expect pinpoint accuracy, it's not possible. So I don't howel like a banshee when VGC and NPD are 15% apart, unlike some people here. And I don't cry foul when there are significant adjustments. It's just the nature of the beast that feeds my addiction to the chartz.

ITS SOLD TO CONSUMERS. |
A twitter feed is not an official statement. Can you link the IGN article? Until there's a press release or official statement saying it's sold to consumers, then it's best to assume it's sold to retailers. I'm not saying it's not sold to consumers, but there's nothing to say that it is.

A bit late to the party, the Aaron Greenberg info wasn't available when this was discussed. So how was it ignorance that 1m sold (which 9/10, as stated multiple times throughout this forum in multiple different scenarios, are shipped TO retail), didn't add up to VGCs consumer tracking of 1.3m. Even if the "over 1m" is defined as 1.5m, it wouldn't make sense, more so than 1m, but the adoptionrate would be through the roof unlike any other product out there.
But with that in mind, your e-funniez wouldn't be as loltastic.

Sold = shipped to retailers always in the context of financial reports. Sold in the context of a news article is usually sell through because typically if they are talking about shipments they will specifically say shipments.
Tease.

Its obvious. They wanted to diss Vgchartz so we would never suspect them of using the numbers.
