Sidhe announces Rugby Challenge

Kiwi developer Sidhe is has this morning announced Rugby Challenge, due before next year’s Rugby World Cup and in development for both “console and PC.”

Rugby Challenge is approved by the New Zealand Rugby Union – hosts of next year’s tournament – and will include the All Blacks, the regional ITM Cup and the Investec Super Rugby competition.

Sidhe tells Gameplanet that additional licenses will be announced in the weeks and months ahead.

The game will also feature dynamic commentary and studio head Mario Wynands tells us that Sidhe is working with two “great, well-known” commentators said.

Rugby Challenge will feature local and online multiplayer, a multi-year franchise mode, and “extensive” customisation options.

Rugby Challenge will be published by Home Entertainment Suppliers.

Tired of waiting for EA to get off it's arse, or get it's nose oput of Rugby League's Arse? Nature abhores a vaccuum so the Rugby Union void has been filled (or will be).

Gonna be developed by a game developer native to the greatest Rugby nation in the Universe, so if there's any chance of a Rugby game being worth playing this one has got a fighting chance.

Other sites are stating "Consoles" means 360 & PS3 only. I don't think Sidhe develops for Wii. They started out as a [third party] PS2/PC developer I believe, then moved to be a HD console/PC developer. Despite being compatriots I don't know much about Sidhe. The only games I've heard associated with them in the past have been car combat games.

*Checks profile* From Aussie? Hmmm mustn't be from Q'land or NSW because he'd never make such a funadamental error as to confuse Rugby Union with Rugby League if he was from either of those 2 states. Confusing the 2 is like saying Vegemite = Marmite.

I do believe, and correct (link) me if I'm wrong, it's Rugby League Live for PS3/360. There's no Rugby Union Live.

Nice I'll probably check it out. Rugby Union ftw.

I wander what sales would be considered a success for such a game. It could sell well in the British isl., France and Australia plus New Zealand, since i don't know if many South Africans have consoles. 400k total?

Awesome i hope it doesn't disappoint.

Hey there. I'm Milla, community manager at Sidhe :)

We're a good-sized studio (just over 100 people) in Wellington, New Zealand, and have been around since 1997. We have multiple teams, including one that develops games for iOS and Android devices, branded and published as PikPok.

Our latest Rugby League title, Rugby League 3, was released in March of this year for Wii. We previously developed two other Rugby League titles for PC, PS2, and Xbox. We're probably best known for those, Shatter, and Gripshift. Shatter is available in PSN, PC, Steam, and OnLive, and has been very well-received, most particularly for its entirely original soundtrack. Gripshift is available for PSP, XBLA, and PSN, and has also proven successful.

We will be releasing more information about what will be included in Rugby Challenge in coming months, and have a website at http://rugbychallengegame.com, which will always carry the latest.

Im only buying this game if I am able to make a customised character of legendary abilities with orange hair.
