It's because they are simply years behind PC FPS games. We've been playing games like System Shock 2, Half-Life series, Unreal Tournament series, Quake series, etc. for years. A full decade before the release of Halo 2 PC FPSes were offering more complex gameplay and a better, much more fleshed out, online system. We STILL have a better online system through Steam for absolutely free along with a better digital distribution system than Xbox Live has.

In fact, Microsoft is now trying to encroach on us with their bullshit Windows Live crap that no one is buying because it's absolutely ridiculous to expect PC users to pay $50 a year for far less features than we get with Steam for free. Halo is a great CONSOLE FPS series, but it simply doesn't offer anything for PC gamers that we can't get better elsewhere. I think Halo 3 is a great shooter... for the 360. Just like I think Metroid Prime Hunters is a great shooter for the Nintendo DS. It's great for the platform it's on, but it's just not comparable to games on the PC.

I'm really only interested in the Halo series on the Xbox/360. I even own the first one on the PC and don't think it's that great. The "This is amazing!!!" feeling when my friend and I first played through Halo co-op years ago was quickly replaced with a huge "meh" the second I loaded it up on my PC. Adding to that was a rather poor port with a bad online mode. Not that Halo PC had terrible online mode, but a FPS having a delay where you have to lead every shot or else you wont hit anything is almost unforgivable especially when you think about having that problem with Counter-Strike or the UT series. I thought I had been above that since we dropped the 56k modem and went for cable 6+ years ago, but apparently not. 

Also, I'm really not happy that Windows Live is being pushed on us. I'm also not enjoying how the Windows Live screens are literally a cut and paste of Xbox Live (seen on Gears of War PC). For as long as they're charging for this service, it wont be worth it (lets not even bring up the Silver version, at least without looking at Halo 2). 

I'd much rather play Counter-Strike to Halo and I've been doing so since Halo came out (Well, I've moved to Condition Zero and CSS, but still).

I never really understood the Halo hype, they are good console FPS's... but they pale in comparison to a good PC FPS...

I find Half-Life to be more entertaining than halo. Half-Life is one of the few games which does the main character not talking thing right (I look at F.E.A.R. as an example of a game that does it badly) and it's good with it's storyline, acting, and most everything else in it (HL2 could have been better, but it was still good).

I cant beleive you have your signiture like that then post this. Who all hates it? This community is not a represenation of all gamers, NO forum is accurate.

Ill talk shit about half life, i rented the orange box and absolutley disliked it. I hated the shooting aspects, the art sytle (bleh) and everything about it (story seemed decent never finished cause i didnt like it ). I really disliked team fortress and thought it has nothing on any online mult.

Just........you have opinion in your signiture yet you state that halo is basic as a FACT. No its not its ALL opinions. I really REALLY love halo, i think its by far one of the best FPS ive ever played. Is it a fact its the best, of course not, its my opinion, just like your opinion is halo is basic. Theres a DIFFERENCE between facts and opinions dont confuse the two.


 1.) MANY people I know dislike or don't care about it (I'll give you that, hate is a strong word :P ), primarily many of my PC FPS friends just sick to death of seeing Digg articles about Master Chief's left nut every 4 minutes. I dislike it, I've heard members on this site that dislike it, I've read player reviews of people that dislike it. It is indeed a FACT that some people DON'T like it.

Thats not disputed, but the fact that people dont love it is not. Your friends do not respresent the halo players as a whole.

2.) The amount of people that talk shit about those titles PALE in comparison. In fact your the first person I've ever seen that disliked those titles. (I know I don't look very hard, I just talk to my friends and such), but thank you for now correcting me.

Possibly on these forums,  however numerous people i know dislike it as well. Your friends or forums do not, once again, represent the players as a whole.

3.) Halo IS basic, I never said it was a bad thing, I just said it wasn't good. There is a reason the whole Halo 3 community is constantly bashed by saying it's full of 12 year olds. And like it or not Halo doesn't bring ANYTHING that other PC Fps's haven't done before, and that's what this argument is about isn't it? 

Basic to you maybe, but to everyone. No. Again opinion from fact. I have no problem with expressing opinions but.....dont mix up the two. Maybe it hasnt but whats to say it hasnt perfected the things its redone, which doesnt make it basic to some people. That whole comment on full of 12 year olds is nonsense and is not based on the fact the game is basic but because we have a few 12 year olds who need to grow up. every game has them

All in all I'm sorry if I offended you with my "harsh" opinion, but I just get so sick of people wondering why Halo 3 is disliked, or fanatic's trying to tell me it's the greatest thing ever without providing ANY case of such, at least Eugene admitted that it's simple fun. I mean hell there was a topic here recently that asked the same question, "Why the Halo Hate", people state reasons and they get shoved off as opinions, yet the original poster couldn't say ANYTHING to support it, other than it was popular. We all know popular does NOT equal good. If you can contribute VALID reasons why Halo is the greatest game evar, then I'd be much more lenient with the title. But I never get that, just silly crap about popularity and forge -_- 

Never stated any of that at all. Im just stating that everyone has opinions. I have no problem people disliking halo, but them stating everyone does and the game is basic to everyone? Nope doesnt sit well with me.

And the thing that really puts the salt in the wounds, is that friggin phrase "Halo 3 is a benchmark of what all FPS's should strive for." NO, GOD NO >< Uniqueness is the only thing that can drag me into FPS's, if more and more people made strait up, generic multiplayer matches I'd vomit >< 

Then they should of put "halo 3 is a benchmark of what all FPS should strive for IMO" No opinion is correct.


 



                 With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

 No, its not how EVERYONE thinks, but im pretty sure its how the majority thinks, or at least the majority I know of. Majority ruling usually stands otherwise we couldnt say anything is anything because Im pretty sure theres always gonna be one person who disagrees.
