Forums - Sony - 60% of prospective Move owners Nintendo converts?

Or it could be that people who own a PS3, and also already owned a Wii... like the Wii's gameplay and would like to play exclusive titles on PS3.

I mean, it's common sense that motion controllers would appeal most to... people who like motion controllers.

That doesn't mean there is some kind of max exodus.   It's like if McDonals started selling Tacos, and 80% of people who got the Taco's eat at taco bell.

It doesn't mean they didn't eat at Mcdonalds anyway, or they won't eat at Taco Bell.

Besides it's not like the Move numbers are that huge.

Wow its not every day that Sony pretty much claims to be taking over Nintendo's market. But they are doing so in a big way claiming that 60% of the people planning to or probubly buying Move are actually Nintendo consumers. Infact 60% of people planning on buying Move actually already own Nintendo Wii's.

This means that 60% of Move's market are unhappy Nintendo fans looking to get their Move on. Now I wouldn't have believed it myself as a Nintendo fan but the data comes from Ipsos OTX's GamePlan Insights group. Ipsos is a reliable and dignified company and its research is usually spot on. They got the information by conducting a poll of prospective Move owners, coming to the conclusion a majority of them are actually Wii owning Nintendo gamers.

So the question is, why would 60% of Move's buyers want to buy Move when they have Wii? Are these gamers actually converting to Sony, or are they going to play both? Is this accurate do you think Sony is actually stealing that many Wii owners from Nintendo? Do you think both Sony and Nintendo stand to benefit from this or is it lop sided.

What do you think about the announcement?

Sony might actually be right, but what they're saying is not that impressive ...

There are far more multi-console owners this generation than previous generations, and it is entirely plausable that people who own a Wii and a HD console are more likely to be interested in motion gaming than people who own just a HD console alone. Now, being that the majority of Move consumers are existing PS3 owners and Move sales (compared to Wii sales) are very low, even if 80% of people who bought a PS3 with move were disappointed Wii owners the number of people that represents is far too small to be significant for Nintendo at this point in time.

If there are way more multiplatform owners this gen that means that:

a) wealth level of average gamer increased

b) the sole platform wasn't capable of providing him/her with enough games for constant gameplay

c) combination of both of above factors.

What makes you think most people play "constant gameplay" wise?

You've missed the biggest factor.

D) Gaming time has increased as a hobby.

I mean, one system was pretty much NEVER enough for diehard videogame fans in the firstplace.
