I tend to play more SP than MP and I find the notifications quite jarring from an immersion point of view. Until you can do that Ebert is right, games can't be art because art doesn't ping you in the middle of the film to let you know you've finished the first scene. |
You can turn off notifications for the 360 so I'm pretty sure you should be able to turn off notifications for the PS3 too?

A lot of videogames are an art of which YOU have the responsibility to move forward and even decide how to unfold. Videogames evoke feelings like any other form of art. I go to Roger Ebert when I want to know the opinion of a person who I respect when deciding to watch a movie or not, but when it comes to videogames he doesn't add anything.

As the perfectionist-OCD I am, I'd say I like neither because both have flaws but still like Trophies a little better.
Bad thing about Trophies is that not all games originally had them, and they kind of feel like a ripoff of the Achievement system. I can't accept the fact developer as huge as Namco never patched Soul Calibur IV. I regret putting my money on this game with no Trophies, I should have gotten it on the 360 or not bought it at all (it isn't that great anyway). It's a shame because even a smaller company like NipponIchi patched Disgaea 3 (AWESOME GAME) with Trophies over a year after its original release without Trophies.
Cool thing about Trophies is the level system and Platinum to tell which games are 100%.
Achievements feel like an overall more polished system but I don't like stuff like 1250/1000, etc.
Achievements because they can be anywhere between 0-150(maybe more) points. Trophies are the equivalent of 4 numbers.
Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.
Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Technically if you think they are worthless or don't see a difference between them, you still have an opinion on it and that gives you a reason to be in this thread to post said opinion.
I do not see a difference between either nor do I care to try and get them, if I get it during a play through then cool I get a happy little amount of points.

Anchievements basicly created the whole point stats.....So That gets my vote
