Bandai-Namco is celebrating the Tales series by announcing that the long-running franchise has sold through 10 million units worldwide. The series has seen multiple releases, with the first title having been on the SNES. The worldwide sales breakdown for the entire series is a bit surprising though. Japan comes in with 87%, the US at 8%, and Europe with 3%. In other words, the vast majority of that 10 million units sold happened in Japan.

 Not really surprising ... The only JRPG sagas that have huge sale in western markets are Final Fantasy ( Kingdom hearts too ) and Pokemon ....

8% of 10 mil is 800 thousand... So all the tales games put together only sold a total of 800 thousand in the US? That is so low it makes me wonder if they even got their money out of the translation efforts.

The breakdown does make sense. I had only vaguely heard of the Tales series(in the US) and never played any, but my gf (jp) is a huge fan of the series and has many of the games, reads the manga, etc. I've seen a lot of Tales stuff here in JP especially, with the recent release of Innocence on the DS (tv commercials/advertising in stores, etc)

Too bad this isn't the case with FF.
