I like fable 3, Fable 2. But I hate fallout 3. will i like oblivion? it looks like fable but does it play anything like it?

Hmm well to be honest, Fallout 3 is basically Oblivion in a post-apocalyptic skin with guns rather than swords, so chances are you won't like it. Unless it's the story you hate or the guns rather than the gameplay, but I doubt that's the case. Never played the Fable games so not sure about those.

YES!

to me the Fable series is like a more actiony streamlined third person camera version of Elder Scrolls series

You WONT find the british humor in Elder Scrolls like you do in Fable.

You WONT find the gigantic open world in Fable like you do in Elder Scrolls.

i'll tell you, if you like Fable then its a no brainer that you get into the Elder Scrolls series.

let me make a quick comparison

Fable = Humor, Colorful, Cartoonish, Streamlined (but still open in a sense), Third person perspective, less interaction with objects, more mini games but less dungeons.

Elder Scrolls = More serious, Still beautiful looking , not cartoonish but still not depressing like Fallout (even less depressing than Fable really) you can enjoy just walking around with lush colorful  scenery, first person perspective , more interaction with objects than you do with Fable, less mini games but huge number of dungeons.

I didnt like fallout 3 because when you have a bunch of items it slows you down. plus even on the easiest mode I got stuck in fallout 3 right in the beginning. and the game is so dark. sounds like i would like oblivion more but idk if i should get it

you got stuck because of the difficulty ? or the way the game is made?

either way Oblivion is nowhere as dark as Fallout

who gives a poop about trophies this is one game where you should play without worrying about achievements and trophies , its a unique experience, i still play it from time to time to relax.

Yea I know Final Fantasy 7 doesn't have trophies and I play it.....every once in a while

This game is indeed far better than fallout 3. IMO, fallout 3 is overrated. It's world is drab and glitches are through the roof. Furthermore, It lacks a sense of world balance that is present in pretty much every adjacent open world game. It also contains only 1 color pallet... and that pallet is shades of brown. If you want to expand on the universe, DLC is very disappointing.

Oblivion on the other hand is one of the best games I have ever played. It's world is perfect and the lore is both fantastic and diverse. I've spent literally HUNDREDS of hours playing and discover something new every time I boot up the game. And if you end up wanting more, Shivering isles kicks the shit out of just about any other DLC I've ever seen.

Seriously, considering you like fable, you're probably into fantasy stories/worlds. I don't see why you would pass this game up...

Also something to consider: Oblivion is the sequel to Morrowind... (Another one of my favorite games!) I suggest you play that as well. There's many references in Oblivion that can only be understood by playing Morrowind. It would enrich the experience IMO. It's not necessary though...

Yeah, I'm with many of the posters here in that Oblivion is definitly the superior game. Much more vast, colorful, inspired world. Fallout 3's world is depressing, usually pretty dull, and uninspiring. I know that's what they were probably going for, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. That said, I still think Fallout 3 is a great game. Just not near the level of excellence of Oblivion. I also prefer swords and magic to guns and explosives personally.

So I say, even if you DO hate Fallout 3, perhaps at least give Oblivion a chance. Haven't checked amazon for it lately but I'm sure you could get it pretty cheap since it is a relatively old game now. If you do like Fable as you say, you may enjoy at least some aspects of Oblivion, as the atmosphere and things like the magic system seem to be similar. But as I said, expect the core gameplay to be very similar to Fallout 3.

I loved Oblivion and played it alot, then Fallout3 came out. I hated it. I get that both games have the same mechanics, but the tone, the world and the colors of Fallout3 made me hate it. TBH, i don't even know if I played it for more then 5 hours. I really recommend you try Oblivion. One of the best games of this generation. BTW, has anyone heard anything about an Elder Scrolls V?
