The republicans didn't even take the senate, this just shows how out of touch they are with the majority. The house is a different story since it is not about the majority but about every little redneck pocket of people scattered in America.

I don't see how you can surmise that from the election.

Far more Republicans got elected in every facet of government than democrats did. Governors, Congressmen, Senators all went heavily Republican. The only reason they didn't take the Senate was that they only elect 1/3rd of the senators each cycle. If they elected a similar number of senators as they did governors or congressman, the Republicans would have a 55 or even 60 member majority.

how do people vote for a senate member and a house member,

sorry for the noob question but i don't actually know do they vote for each

Most states are seperated into districts, each district gets a house representative. Most educated(democratic vote always more than 60% on any election) and moderate people live in big cities and are clustered in fewer districts while more traditional and less educated people live in the countryside and suberbs.

The senate is voted by the whole state. When a democrat wins they usually only win because the big cities, if you were to look at their voting map you would find the state completely red (republicans in favor) and only small spots as blue (big cities where the majority of people live).

Hah, I see someone here is a sore loser.

I love gridlock. The less government accomplishes, the happier I am.

Regardless of what party you're for, gridlock is not the way to achieve progress

I'm interested, are the tea party candidates that got in the sane ones or the nuts ones?

Sane.  The ones consider nuts, are Odonnel and Angle who both lost .  Though I'd like to point out that the same kinds of attacks were made on those that won.

Rand Paul example was accused of being part of a secret society that thinks the bible is a hoak.  (Not wrong mind you... but a hoax.)

That he kidnapped a woman, forced her to smoke pot and than forced her to woship a "False Idol" called "Aqua Buddha".

A big reason he one was because in that race said "Ok, that's enough fucking dumb personal attacks." and the democrat plunged in the polls after the ads.

Honestly I'm beggining to think the whole thing with most of these candidates was just a political screw job and they were all sane.

Just like John McCain's "illegitamite black baby" (Aka his adopted son.)  and all the things people started believing about Hilary Clinton during her primary vs Obama.

No.  But it's a good way of stopping two groups of incompetant assholes from making negative progress.   Like what happened in the last 10 years.

Actually when did the US make it's most progress lately?   Why a split congress when Clinton and the Republicans worked together.

The all Democrat part of Cliton's rule didn't run nearly as smooth.

Well, since 2/3rds of the Senate wasn't even up for re-election this term, your statement doesn't really make sense.

But maybe somehow the "rednecks" broke the space time continuum and made up new maths.

Define "progress". Most of the time I see government do something, they just muck up a situation more and convolute laws to better fit lobbyists, not their constituency. Not "progress".

Now the GOP and Dems will have to play nice to get anything done. We, the taxpayers, usually win when that happens.

Whatever he may or may not have done, Rand Paul is more insane than most of them if he even holds half his father's ideals to heart.

I'm just surprised he didn't get sunk over that whole "Civil Rights was bad" fiasco. The best proof in the past half century that federal intervention is often the only way to get things done

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

edit: nvm. Forget this post >.<

He didn't get sunk by it... because that wasn't what he really said.

For some reason the people of Kentucky seem to be less likely to be pulled around by the "dumb soundbites express".

They also elected a super liberal congressman.  The kind of guy who's actually not afraid to say "I am for gay rights, including gay marriage."

Man I hate politicians who "hide" that whenever they run.

These people have no interest in compromise. The republicans have already stated that their main goal is turn Obama into a lame duck Pres who doesn't get any more terms. And with their new seats and the power of the fillibuster they can stop any thing the dems try to do. And the dems are not going to play nice with people so openly hostile towards them. Its a bad situation.
