Forums - Sony - PS3 Issue, Help requested!

Heya all ;_;..

So today around 5 PM I was playing Fight night round 4 online and had a blast owning some beginners. I turned it off, took a nap and woke up. I turn on my PS3, and there is no internet connection.

Now, I doubt this is PSN related but IF it is, it should not affect the web browser in which it does. When I do a network check, it fails on "Finding IP Adress". Ive checked the cables. When I insert the ethernet cable on my PS3, it turns green = yay. But the cable goes all the way to the router and that router port does NOT turn green. So the PS3 is not giving ..power kinda. The PC has internet, even my 360 has internet. I tried changing the cables between PS3 and 360 and it didnt do jack shit. PS3 still wont work.

So whats the problem?
Is my network card dead?

EDIT: Guys so I was wrong, its both green BEHIND the PS3 and IN THE ROUTER port.

So why the fuck isnt it working!?

Please.. anybody? I have a fat 60gb

This is really weird! The only thing i can think of and i would do is to restart your router. Turn it off for a minute and then back on. After it boots up turn your ps3 on also and lets hope that the router got mixed up or something. Machines have feelings too :P.
Also have you tried connecting your ps3 to another router port except changing wires?

1) take a known working device (like your PC)
2) plug it into the router with the cable that is currently being used by the PS3
2a) if this doesn't work then replace the cable
3) plug the network cable into each port of the router
3a) if any one of those ports doesn't work than mark that port as bad or just buy a new router
4) if everything works, than your PS3 is the problem
4a) try factory ressetting the system and be very careful to make sure all settings are correct (it should be pretty much automatic)
   4b) try switching to wireless

if nothing works, your PS3's network card must be shot. The only thing I can think left to try is to plug your PS3 directly into the cable modem with a known working cable.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Does your home network use DHCP or have you assigned Static IP's to each device connected to the router? If you don't know what I'm talking about then you're using DHCP. In that case it might be that your router is at its max limit of IP assignments (most routers only allow 10 network devices on them by default). Did you add any new items to your network recently?

If you don't have that many items connected to your router then perhaps just restarting the router might fix the problem as suggested above.

Ive turned off the modem and router, waited for a long while and tried changing cables. Every single cable work with every single device (X360,PC,Even my Samsung TV) but the PS3 doesnt work!

Im not sure about the DHCP thing and my IP is dynamic. I have not added any new items to my network recently. Like I said it was working like a charm, I went for a nap and woke up 2 hours later and it doesnt work.

"Also have you tried connecting your ps3 to another router port except changing wires?"
Yeah I switched the wire with the 360 one which is on another port and that didn't work. Tried with the port I use for PC now and that didnt work either. Tried on the TV one too and THAT DIDNT WORK EITHER!

Ive redone the network configuration and made sure its correct but it still cant retrieve the IP adress and when browsing the internet browser I get : Page couldnt be loaded, error 8somethingsomething (Googled that number and didnt get jack shit).

Gonna try connecting the ps3 directly to the modem somehow...

With time warner cable I had a seperate modem that used an ethernet cable to go into the WAN port on my router. With Verizon the modem was the router. Depending on your provider you may not have a sperate modem.

If you do have a seperate modem, then just plug the ethernet cable directly into your PS3 and reboot the modem.

Did you try connecting to the router wirelessly? (as nordlead suggested)

Yes even wirelessly didn't work. Ill call my ISP and ask them to restart .."everything" themselves to see if it helps. If not, I guess I will get a check on the network card or send it in for repair. Guess I can play Halo Reach and explore my xbox hate even further XD. Thank god for GT5 not releasing yet.
