poems themselves are not too bad. BUt in english class they are like hell.  We overanalyse everything. We find all of the idioms, alliteration, epigrams, etc. I don't think the poets were thinking of all of tht when they wrote the poem. Then we give some people wayy to much credit like shakespeare. We hold his work to highes esteem but how do we know shakespeare wasn't drunk when he was writing his poetry and it is gibberish.

Poems are written to be enjoyed, not studied.

Favourites are the poetry of Edgar Allan Poe and Oscar Wilde, even though both of them wrote short stories the majority of the time, their poetry is still great.

Least favourite is Wordsworth, partially cos I had to study him too much, partially because, despite being able to string a poem together and make it sound good, he was a complete dickhead

yeah i was just describing my english class haha. but my favorite poem is from robert frost about the two diverging roads

Ahh, VGChartz still doesnt support the plus sign. the 1 that was in my previous post was meant to be saying "I agree with what you just said" My English class sounds like it was the same as yours

The Road not taken is really good, I agree.

Oh, and as for Shakespeare, I completely agree. When he wrote his plays, it was basically as entertainment for the masses, the poor and the uneducated for the most part. I think Shakespeare is the prime example of people reading more from a work than the author ever thought about.

I hate poetry. I love prose, but I hate poetry.

"I don't understand how someone could like Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, but not like Twilight!!!"

"Last book I read was Brokeback Mountain, I just don't have the patience for them unless it's softcore porn."

(The Voice of a Generation and Seece)

"If you cant stand the sound of your own voice than dont become a singer !!!!!"

                                                                               (pizzahut451)

I don't usually like poems, but Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy is one of the best things I've ever red

One of the few art forms I've never been able to appreciate much.

Mind you, epic poetry such as the Aenied, Iliad, Odyssey and the Divine Comedy are very enjoyable.
