poems themselves are not too bad. BUt in english class they are like hell.  We overanalyse everything. We find all of the idioms, alliteration, epigrams, etc. I don't think the poets were thinking of all of tht when they wrote the poem. Then we give some people wayy to much credit like shakespeare. We hold his work to highes esteem but how do we know shakespeare wasn't drunk when he was writing his poetry and it is gibberish.

This is one of the best I ever heard:

METAMORFOSIS

I recited this years ago :P

I don't mind poems as long as they don't look like something produced with a random-word generator.

I like poems, and sometime I compose to help my friends with their romantic dates.

I compose for my fiancée as well

I have ways to go, but so far people liked them

I did some art history, philosophy of art and english/literature papers in my degree at Uni so had to read all the 'classic' poems by shakespeare, marlowe, shelley, poe, byron etc as well as things like faust and paradise lost. Since then I've taken quite an interest. (paradise lost and faust are two of my favourite 'stories' ever and I LOVE Marlowe, have complete collections of all of the above authors btw). I had to know their intacacies and meanings enough to a point where I have written essays on most of them and know the different types of poetic structures etc but have never tried writing any of my own. I'm the 'nerd' of my group of friends as it is and I think if I started writing poetry I would never hear the end of it...

I like poems. I don't have the memory to remember anything that's not programming or rpg thought. I used to write poems, I guess I still do though I haven't done it in a long time. Very ameturish though.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

poems are great. i love poetry!

Poems.  It's what I do when I can't seem to get my books out of my head and onto a piece of paper (computer).  And much more when I've been drinking.  Here's a quick one, made up, on the spot.  It's ok.  The lisp part makes no sense but it's staying dammit.

A Mother's Love  -- 1879

Spoken with a lisp, tied with a twist,

some simple noose, a gasp

as she twitched,

a notch on a pole,

a boy in a hole,

buried too young,

on a rope she was hung.
