Forums - Sony - Sony's Jack Tretton caught in a lie ...AGAIN

I love how some people are defending this BS from Sony.  If Microsoft had announced they sold over 8 million copies of Halo: Reach first week (without metioning it was sales to retailers) would those people be defending that as well?

Exactly.

I personally would, yes.  I mean, this is not that difficult of a concept.  As long as people understand reality and don't gloat when it is undeserving, I'm okay.  I just want people to know what they're cheering.  When MS sells 3-4 million (maybe more) this year for Kinect, I'll be fine with it.  As long as they understand what MS is saying and don't talk like they understand when they don't.  This is wishful thinking though.

Not defending this thread (and I'm uncomfortable with promoting it with this comment), but you bring up a very good point here.  Shipped and sold are separate things and everyone (especially retailers) knows that.  Its INDEFENSIBLE for someone in Tretton's position to mixed the terms, especially with a product that is admittedly not as hyped as its direct competitors.  The most likely conclusion is that his inaccurate terminology was design to inflate the performance of Move when it honestly isn't necessary because it DOES get exposed and makes him and Sony look bad.  Its just not worth it.

If MS did the same with Reach (not as controversial as it is just a game) they would deserve the same treatment and any who would defend them would deserve the disdain.

I think I expect too much from us as a community ...

Why is it indefensible?  Do you think he says these things for us?  The important people know what he means, our opinions here matter for naught.  It is business.

It is indefesible if you give his words your own meaning.  If he said however many were sold to consumers, than yes.  But he just said sold.  This means to retailers, this is just how companies operate.

....It's really not a lie since almost everyone knows that when most companies say sold it means shipped...

Are you serious ?  You must be working for Sony..

MS has been alot more publicly accurate (honest) in sales figures of the XB 360 mainly because they dont have to lie to their stockholders like Sony has been to keep investors from pulling out.. What a sham

You can't lie at all, I'm pretty sure their are legal ramifications for anyone who does.  I doubt Sony would risk lawsuits because they want to make their numbers seem rosier.

what a fail of a basterd >.>
