Forums - Sony - Sony's Holiday - Discussion (How to sell the PS3)

Okay, since the time's coming closer, where the big three can reach sick sales numbers, its up to take the initiative.

if we look at the Sales of the last Month's, Ninty is going down, but still, doing a good job. Microsoft's 360 Relaunch has bumped the Sales for a nice ammount, while Move had only a slight impact into PS3's sales.

So, what do you think should, and/or could Sony do, to increase the Holiday Sales?

i'd say they should .. cut the price for 50$, but only for 1-2 weeks (and announce, in Ad's, that its a very limited action), or they should Advertise Move like hell, and sell it with a PS3 (120gb) for 299$.

but actually, i think theyll come up with some stupid idea, like giving you a free download or something..

What do you think? And will Sony do well in the end of 2010?

The cheapest way of improving sales is probably to just bundle some first-party software with the different SKUs. Maybe Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 160GB bundle, Modnation Racers and LittleBigPlanet 160GB bundle, God of War 3 and Infamous 160GB bundle. Maybe GoW3 should be switched for something else, as it is the first holiday season for the game and should sell fine on its own (the same for Modnation, but it isn't exactly lighting up the charts so it could use a bundle). The cost of first-party games should be peanuts to bundle.

Bundling Move at $299 could be very effective, but it would be more costly than bundling first-party games (I'm assuming the hardware is more expensive than packing in first-party games with the console). Obviously, 3rd party software would be more expensive than 1st party, but Sony have a strong enough first party to offer a nice variety of bundles with just their own software.

The most expensive method of driving sales is almost certainly a price cut, but it would need to be $50 to be truly effective, and I just don't think that is something Sony should be pushing (maybe in EU where the PS3 is €299, which is almost ~$400 at current exchange rates).

a possibility.

to the game Bundle's:

they could go great, too. just imagine Sony selling Bundle Version exclusivity to Retailers like Bestbuy, Gamestop, and what isnt existing out there.

Bundling Software is a good thing, but not again for 350$, but for the Price the PS3 comes without any normally, and i doubt sony will do that.

*Imagine's a Bundle of LBP GOTY, Motorstorm 2 and a Demo Disc packed with 10-20  different PSN Demo's for 299$*

i think they should lower the price of the 320 gig ps move bundle to 300 bucks and the previous ps3 slims to 250 bucks.

I should have remembered Motorstorm 2. That would be a good game to bundle. It hasn't really penetrated the market much, and has an upcoming sequel. Great way to try and drive sales for Apocalypse. If a bundle like that LBP/Motorstorm Pacific Rift/Demo Disc was available, it would definitely tempt me if I didn't already own a PS3.

Bundle it with a bucket of chicken.

@BHR

i think the Key's to be Cheap and offer Value at the same time, and at least here in Europe is a Move Bundle for 350€.

Maybe the Bundle posted above, and in addition a GT5 Bundle, aswell as a Move Bundle for the Stateside/Japan ?
