Forums - Sony - Insomniac: "We are the best on PS3"

AdventWolf said:

I read the initial quote but I gotta say,

If you rank Polyphony over Insomniac this generation it just seems very illogical. They've only released GT5:Prologue and that's it! Yeah they are working on GT5 which might be the best racer ever, but it is taking them like 6 years to make it. I bet if Insomniac put all that time into making resistance 1, it could have been a 100% rating. But it's nonsense, because if it takes you so long to make a game then you aren't really a high quality developer(on that system), because it takes you so long to get the job done.

Santa Monica has only made God of War 3 (and a nonessential port), which is a good game but how can a single game compete with several games that have been developed by Insomniac? It doesn't make any sense. You can make the quality of quantity point, but Insomniac games are quality! Maybe not 95% but still they aren't anything to laugh at at all.

Now Naughty Dog, I guess I can let that one slide. But still, we are aruing we knows the system more, it's not about who has made the single most high quality game.

Which is where the arguments are falling flat. You don't have to know a system well to make an awesome game, just to make a game that isn't loaded with bugs, and all the games here meet at least that.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Well they didn't say those exact words but close enough "Insomniac Games boss Ted Price has said that his studio has a better understanding of the PlayStation 3 and the hardware inside it than any other studio."

Insomniac has more games, so they would need to get to know the system a bit better than with just a few games.

I admit that might be the fanboy in me. I don't even have a PS3 yet, but Insomniac is one of my top game developers (which means their games are on my PS3 wish list), so I know they make their games awesome. Nothing against Naughty Dog though. Their only game I played was Crash Team Racing, but any developer that manages to make a successful clone of Mario Kart (as we've seen too many fall short) deserves my respect.

You sound like me.  Are ... are you ... me?

Anyway, the day Insomniac went multiplatform there was no way that they could ever win this one here.  Sad, because they're consistent output with no delays, as well as their award winning work environment, makes them the gold standard of developers.  I miss R&C ...

R&C just released last year and a new one is coming next year. How can you miss them?

The economy and console pricing.  Haven't been able to afford multiple consoles this time around so no PS3.

They did go multiplat, but only for one game series. They're still free to develop exclusively with Sony on PS3.

But I agree, Insomniac along with Naughty Dog were big factors in me buying a PS3. Main reason though was MGS4.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Soooo.... who actually clicked the source and read the context? The OP and thread title are very misleading.

From the link:

"Insomniac Games used the PlayStation 3 hardware more effectively than any other studio before it during development of 2007's Ratchet & Clank: Tools Of Destruction."

That's a pretty important distinction to make. So all those comments about Uncharted 2/ND, inFamous 2/Sucker Punch, GT5/Polyphony Digital etc. are kinda redundant as they're all after the game in question.

You know, that actually slipped my eyes. In that case, it's taken way out of context.

I note Price on their website is saying his comments were taken out of context.  Haven't read the original but it's worth bearing in mind his words may well have been twisted in some fashion.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Ahh ok. Fair enough I guess, you should probably just buy a PS2 then along with the older R&C games and maybe try out the Jak series.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

I knew Ted Price nor Insomniac would make such arrogant statment.

Go read his Blog at the Insomniac Website. Ted Price explains everything and how it's all taken out of context.

Here's the link to Ted Price's blog. (In addition to explaining this issue, he also mentions the potential law in California that would make the selling of mature video games to minors illegal.)

Insomniac is awesome!

This is why I respect Insomniac.

Been there and did all of that last gen.  The economy and console pricing were VERY different way back then ...
