PlatinumGames has become the latest developer to raise its concerns over Microsoft's decision to stick with DVD for Xbox 360, saying that it was "a bit hard to compress everything in one disc" for Vanquish, and that the team thought they might have to cut content.
"Both PS3 and Xbox 360 are great platforms," said PlatinumGames' co-founder Atsushi Inaba talking to Eurogamer.
"They use very different methods in terms of processing data. They both have good things. It's really important to know how to approach depending on the console you're working on.
"But just speaking of media, since Xbox 360 still uses DVD, for games like Vanquish that have a lot of data in one disc and lots of voice over, it's a bit hard to compress everything in one disc.
"That is the only complaint I have."
The developer did eventually manage to squeeze everything in though. According to Inaba, "we thought we might have to cut content during the development but in the end we were able to fit everything in the DVD. So there's nothing we had to cut."
PlatinumGames is the latest in a string of developers to raise concerns over the relatively limited storage space offered by Xbox 360's DVD storage compared with the amount offered by PS3's Blu-ray.
Both id Software and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow developer MercurySteam have previously raised concerns, with the latter suggesting that it's an issue "Microsoft are going to experience more and more".
Microsoft's Steve McGill recently commented on the concerns saying that "people now recognise what a smart decision using DVD was to keep the pricing low".
But do you agree?
Vanquish launches on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this Friday. PlatinumGames say that either version offers "exactly identical quality".
