Hrm... actually, I don't think he'd want that either. It would mean that instead of ignoring one platform, he'd have to compete with Nintendo on every platform out there. And I think there's enough people that would choose a Nintendo game over his that he'd lose sales... LOTS of sales.

For the topic itself, absolutely not. From the corporate standpoint, Nintendo has always been profitable, even when their systems aren't necessarily gangbusters in sales. Why would Nintendo want to discard this profit? It would only be limiting themselves, in more ways than one...

...wait, more ways than one? Yes, it is the creativity of the game designers like Miyamoto that drive Nintendo's console innovation. If they have some ideas, make a new system that can do them! Being dependant on someone else to make the system you need stifles their ability to make something different. And I think that would be an even bigger loss to Nintendo...

Potentially during the end of the Gamecube Era but due to the Wii (and DS) they rose back, thus Nintendo fluctuate very frequently. If they were to become a third-party developer then they would suffer financially, as opposed to Sega. This is due to the fact that Nintendo is fully secure as a first-party-developer and concentrate on first and second-party games for sales.

Handhelds - Fuck no

Consoles - Possibly, but not likely and not for a very long time.

NO way man. This is the great nintendo were talking about here. Why would I want mario and donkey kong, zelda on another gaming system. What is this some alternate time zone are something. lol

Why the hell would someone even ask such a question? I think that should be asked about Sony or MS.

To think that Nintendo is doing all the work themselves and still manages to be on top is amazing. That can’t be said about other companies that rely mostly on 3erdparties to even have become so big as they are in the business today!

9 yeses? LOL

No because other companies fail to bring freshness and innovation to the hardware market and that's crucial for Nintendo.

Games like Nintendogs, Brain Trainning, Wii Sports, Wii Fit wouldn't be possible on a PSP or PS3/360.

Nintendo has to be behind their software to bake some hardware for it.

(I didn't read the whole thread so maybe this is obvious). What I can see is a lot of ps360 owners who wish to have Nintendo games on their systems without having to buy a Nintendo console.

Edit: (after reading the not so big after all thread) I feel some PS360 owners who pretend the Wii didn't exist secretly wish to play Nintendo games without the dishonor of buying a Nintendo console.

I think a better question would be: Would the gaming industry be better off being Nintendo only a 3rd party publisher?

But that may unleash hell...

No. No.

  • Nintendo makes tons of money out of their hardware, both from the hardware itself and licensing.
  • Nintendo's developers wouldn't have the freedom they have today and they wouldn't get the chance to be a part of the hardware designing process.

without nintendo all of console gaming would just be about having the most mhz, memory and overal best graphics, way less creativity
