Well look at Sega's sales. In 95 and 96 they ran a very close second to Nintendo in software, and were neck and neck with Sony in hardware. Thats an enviable place to be. Then in 97 they announced that Saturn wasn't their future, dumped alot of projects or ported them to DC and let the Saturn fend for itself, with just a couple of big name titles coming out in 97 or 98 (Sakura 2 and Shining Foce 3 are about it), with obvious relsults. They drop to a fraction of their former sales with both hard and software, and piss off the Japanese, who then snub the Dreamcast.
