I'm sorry to say that I can barely stand playing this game. The acceleration and the speed in general is just terrible to me. I stopped at the second act of the Casino level last night and then played Sonic 2 up until Chemical Plant Zone just so I wasn't comparing Sonic 4 to my own cloudy memory and it just doesn't compare.

I completely agree.  The physics of this new game are so bad I want to wash my hands of sonic for life....

the music isnt as good as before,

I've yet to hear something match Chemical Plant Zone's music from Sonic 2. That was just pure awesomesauce.

i preffered Flying Battery from S&K, but all of the old tunes were awesome, that reminds me Streets of Rage was another one with great tunes, perhaps Sega could do a reboot of that...

That one's pretty good, but I don't know, I just don't find it as nostalgic as Chemical Plant Zone.

Streets of Rage...it would really be nice if Sega can correct what Capcom failed in with Final Fight: Streetwise.

lol...final fight streetwise. Here is a funny story...

Streetwise was developed by Secret Level. Sega bought out secret Level in 2007. Secret Level made Ironman and Ironman2 games for sega. After that, Secret level got completely disolved as a studio, people got fired,  and no longer exists.

So yeah, Sega did correct what capcom failed with Streetwise. :)

Lmao...touche.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

I noticed Joystiq gave it a 2.5/5. I assume that's too harsh based on the feedback here?

yeah, sega is trapped here with "damned if you do, damned if you dont"

Copy the formula (which is what they have done with sonic 4 for the most part) and publications will bitch about lack of innovation.

Change the formula, and everyone will bitch it isn't the sonic they love.

Figured. I honestly thought everyone was craving for the old formula and that there would hardly be as much complaints as in this review.

They even fussed about the new parts as well, like the targeting, which takes away the skill of actually aiming to land on enemies. Since I haven't played it, reading it alone sounds like it could make sense, but ppl here say they like the targeting system.

I played he demo and it put me off purchasing the game. I did not feel like a 2d sonic game in the way sonic responds. I dont know it seems like the is lag or something

He's been eating a lot it seems in the time off as he definetly is heavier and it takes more time for him to build up speed.

If you walk in and have pre-set ideas how sonic should control, you wont like it. If you work with what you're given, you'll have fun.

I think it will grow on me. I only had one go so far. I am going to try it out again a bit later

Now that I've beaten it, the complaints I have are as follows:

1. Too short for 15 bucks. Even with all the achievements and backtracking it will be a 5-6 hour experience. For 10 bucks, it would have been perfect.

2. Recycled bosses. Last stage...

3. Music is not very good

4. Bonus level stages make me dizzy and like I want to puke if I play them 4-5 times in a row.

Controls I really got used to and by Casino levels, I was happy with them. Overall, its a great 4-5 hour time waster...I would like to see another one but with many improvements.

I want to see single player online coop, more challenging bosses, mini games versus coop...etc...in Episode 2

Man fuck all that, I expected the game to be better than the previous installments and it isn't. Maybe my opinion will change once I play further through it.....we'll see.

The game is built with a different engine, which i think explains the different physics, but i agree Sonic's acceleration is too slow. the other problem is the camera, if we look at the video the OP posted with the fanmade vid, there is more detail packed onto the screen, imo they shouldve reduced the scale in this one to reach a similar effect in HD.

however, having finished it, i think the level design is excellent, and its good effort.

oh and in response to last comment disolitude i agree about the online co op. you and a friend could play as Sonic and Knuckles in the same level at the same time, but without the split screen, and find different ways to the boss, but still cooperate at the same time. it would give them a chance to up the ante with more diverse boss fights as well imo.
