Forums - Microsoft - I have a bad feeling about this (US critical reception of LO)

I'm worried how this game will be reviewed in the US.  It's going to get the "typical PS3 game review criteria" (kidding, kidding).  In all seriousness, I do feel like US reviewers will want to maintain the Bald Space Marine (TM) image of the Xbox 360.

I'm expecting a 7/10 from alot of reviewers, where BD got a 6/10.  There will be 1 point higher because the characters look realistic instead of cartoony, which is percieved as "kiddy" in the US.

Here is where its going to fall -

Graphical / technical problems (tearing, FR, and loading times) will suddenly become important in this game, unlike Mass Effect.  What is really going on inside the reviewer's head is that the main character is too adrogynous (looks like a girl) but can't officially put that in the review.  The problem will be displaced in these other issues.

Lack of Innovation - this title is too much like other jRPGs, and obviously the 360 can't sport waggle to make up for it.  The real reason will be that this game will have alot of appeal to old school jRPGers.  Random battles, turn based, world map (oh man, I can't wait).

From reading people's impressions, I'm thinking this game should be getting a 9/10, but I think from the US reviewers, prepare for the worst and don't let it interfere with your decision to pick this up.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

i expect it to score in the 7's but US reviewers do not mark down games because their "kiddy"
if they did that then mario galaxy wouldn't have rated so high. BD got low scores because it was an average game.

BD really isn't an average game. People who say that simply haven't played it or given it the time it needs. I doubt there is anyone on this site who plays more RPGs than me, and Blue Dragon is GOOD among RPGs. Without a doubt. It has one fatal flaw (and this is what turned off many people to the game), and that is it takes about 10 hours of crap to get to the great part.

You've gotta be kidding. Thats never stopped reviewers from giving the FF series high scores.

For some reason Reviewers in the US just dont like JRPGS and it sucks......unless of course its FF then they have to give it big or people think they are retarded.

Im expecting mostly 8s, BD finished with like a 78 average which is quite good, but...... still

Im guessing more because it will possess more story and yes people will like the overall mood more.

Thats the way it is, ive watched videos and the tearing is present. Is it a mess like the one guy described, nope, but you know how reviewers are. And yes they are more likely to hit it for these things then big titles from the west.

Exactly they will same it possesses the same old thing (should someone tell them that all FPS are the same?) thats the way it is and its sad. Alot of people love turn based rpgs and it pisses me off that they cant just have someone review it who also likes it that way.

From reading people's impressions, I'm thinking this game should be getting a 9/10, but I think from the US reviewers, prepare for the worst and don't let it interfere with your decision to pick this up.

Yea but if the game gets anywhere around 80-85 then its a very good rpg. Thats just the way it is. Any rpgs in the 80s can be considered pretty danm good and almost 9's in my opinion. I expect it to end around a 85, which is very good rpg, only 6 or 7 lower then FF games.

I also have heard from alot of people how great it is..........just sad reviewers dont see it the same way

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Maybe FF has never been high 90s over here, because alot of people dislike jrpgs, and alot of FF's deserved scores like what halo and all the other FPS are getting.

why i go to IGN, Gametrailers, or game informer for reviews on these games cause the rest just seem to have a biase
