Forums - Microsoft - Ok,,,, about Lost Odyssey in Japan,,,,

lol i think they are just stubborn as hell

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

xbox = the no box in japan. Do you want to buy a No Box?

I'll buy a DOCTOR No Box. Do you have those?

How about the Pen is Mightier?

If it's any consolation, both SMG and LoZ:TP badly underperformed in Japan so far.

They seem to be drifting away from the standard gaming genres and into non gaming, including RPGs.

If the 360's non-games start failing in Japan, THAT'S the really bad sign.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

Like i said in the other thread, the 360's problem in Japan is not games. The country just doesn't want it, they'll never want it. LO was always going to die when AC^ crashed after first week, Musou 5 got ignored because of PS3 version despite the fact that the 360 is cheaper and provided more value, PES08 also got ignored, Assassins Creed didn't improve hardware but instead it dropped.... You see? All of these things simply add up to tell you that the 360 is not ever going to do anything in Japan.

Imo, LO's failure will kill the system there, the month of November was a massive disaster for MS in Japan. It should have performed MUCH MUCH better then it did if it was ever going to do anything there.

You won't see Cry On or Infinite Undiscovery for many months yet but there is nothing stopping them from being massive failures as well. And in the meantime the system will continue to not perform. Big disappoint for Microsoft this and is a major blow to them this gen no matter how it is spun.

I agree, this is a major blow for the future of Xbox in Japan. Its officially dead. There is nothing as of now that they really can do. I think they should just leave.

They could always buy out Square Enix... That would be the nuclear bomb.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Ok, I dont wanna seem annoying about it, but I had alot of hopes in it. I am dissapointed and consent to a defeat. Whats yalls take on what this means in the overall picture? Is it the failure of the game, the company, the hardware, the hardcore gaming culture, or a failure in marketing? Or is it just a Xbox boycott?

I think the problem with the 360 in Japan is that the people buying it are the minority that actually want western style games. Halo 3, the kind of game that isn't suppose to be popular in Japan had around this level of sales.

What MS needs to do is really scale back investment in the Japanese market, withdrawing entirely could pose problems for any future xbox system but  games like LO, Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata seem to be a huge money pit.

 They tried. Square wouldn't sell.

Japanese companies have a tendency to not sell out, especially not to outside companies.

Yea MS wishes, no way would SE ever sell out to them........cause of the biase.......

Overall this hurts really really bad

this may cause MS to stop producing JRPGS on the console....................just plain sad.

And its sad because LO will do decent in US, maybe 500k max, so possibly 750k-1m WW at best..............and the game probably deserves more then that. I just dont know anymore..............

LO and BD are not quite money pitts (im sure they are losing money but not that much) but danm i love that they are doing this for us. I love JRPGS and i hope they dont stop making them

I'm quite disappointed ,that it seems to sell even worse than what I predicted , although my predictions already were quite low. The game seems to be pretty good (I watched those 5 ~ 10min. gameplay videos from gamersyde) , so I really would have liked to see it sell a bit better than that.

RIP xbox in japan

micosoft just leave plz
