Will this mean bigger match sizes too?  I think Gears 2 was 5v5 if I remember correctly, which the style and maps were perfect for.  However, if they update the style a bit and change the maps around I wouldn't mind playing 6v6, 8v8, or as many as 12v12.

They haven't mentioned any increase in team size, that I've seen, so I'm still expecting 5v5.

For Execution, I think that is the perfect number, but I think different modes might play better with more team members.

4vs4 is the best.

Day One and Hail are pretty large maps, and I really don't wanna imagine what anything more than 5 v 5 would be like on them. It'd have to be one massive map for me to be ok with more than 10.

Well I never got into Gears online but this is good news for those that do. I think that this news should more than make up for the delay. I like how all the big titles are giving the gamer more and more content too.

Dedicated Servers...music to my ears...so does this mean it supports serverlists?

I hadn't actually read the article when I posted before. After reading it though, I will be trying multi-player on this bitch when it comes out.

so, I wasn't a fan of multiplayer on the first two (campaign was amazing though) but hey, I'd give it a whirl...any clue how one would go about participating in the beta?

I can understand how many people were let down by Gears 2's multiplayer, but even with the broken matchmaking system I was hooked for almost a year (reached lv 40 something). It's also very good to know that epic has acknowledge the mess they made with Gears 2 and are willing to put some money behind the game to take it to another level.
