I'm not sure about America but here in Canada you have to actually go to a movie theater to watch a theater movie legally. However when I went to PAX I stayed in a hotel. In that hotel their was a digital distribution system connected to the TV. It was a theater service and for 14$ I could watch Get Him to the Greek , Machette and Iron Man 2 as well as several other theater movies.
This got me wondering, why not offer such a service to the general public. I mean once the movie is availible illegally online why not provide a legal source as well. I know if a service came around allowing me to watch theater movies for 14.99$ in the comfort of my own home I would jump at the opertunity.
So I was thinking why aren't theater movies availible for screening online or through a cable provider? I mean I have friends who pirate every movie they see, but some also pay for movies that have already come out via Shaw on demand or some program like that.
A few weeks after the films released in theater's once the films already all over the internet, why not sell the film screenings to home theaters? I bet that it would increase sales of movies come launch as well with all the more people having watched.
So why do hotels get a movie service and not the average every day consumer?
