Even then, it's still to over powered if you can do it more than once. Energy bar doesn't fix the bolded. Compared to the lightning storm:
It's faster
Quicker execution
Wider spread/damage area
That wider spread is even wider if you consider the fact that it not only explodes things like the lightning storm but stuff like cars actually get flung around
And leaves you not only able to defend yourself but fight with it.
that was cool...and its obviously coded that he can pull that move off infinitely for the presentation....its obviously not infinite.

Don't forget that he didn't have much of a grasp on his powers in the first game. This is a sequel to the first, meaning the same character is used and he's getting more used to his powers every minute, which means that he'll be able to pull something like the vortex without having to worry.

Yeah but we don't know if it will take up your whole energy bar. Also we don't know if theres going to be hugh and stronger enemies where you need wider attacks like that. This is just a demo with unlimited powers. For all we know is that vortex move could be the last move you unlock in the game. Sucker Punch know what they are doing. They will not put something in a game that could break the whole mechanics.
My guess is the game has attack helicopters that appear during missions and side mission sort of like the turrent trucks from Infamous 1 and the Vortex move is the only thing that can take them out or who knows maybe you have a special bar seperate to the electricity bar that fills up over time which allow you to release those kinds of moves. You shouldn't judge things off a demo based on pre Alpha codes

I get that. My point is the game actually presenting a challenge. Many people felt in inFamous, you really only needed 3 of your many powers to beat the game. Now we're seeing stuff like this, gliding through the City with ease, flinging cars without touching them and ice powers.

Well I'm not going into buying the game blind if I only see stuff like this thinking "it's gonna be better than what they're showing me". Not saying that I've given up on the game or have cast full judgement at this point. just saying that so far, what i've seen isn't very promising.

the developers already put out a statement on what this game will play like. i'm too lazy find the video but the gist was, "we didn't want to start the game by taking away any of your powers. we want you to start the game by feeling like a super hero. what you will soon find out is that being a super hero is going to get your ass kicked and in order to survive you'll need to become an uber-super hero."
so seriously, stop being such a hater. it doesn't matter that this spell would be over-powered in infamous because it won't in infamous 2.
OT - for an open world game with that much destruction and that many people on screen the graphics are just insane.
