Forums - Sony - PS3's first year almost the same as 360's first year

I'm tired of hearing how badly the PS3 is selling and how it's not popular.

well if you compare PS3's first year to 360's first year the 360 sold only approximately 117,000 more consoles. I got my data directly from this site.

According to this site after 1 year 360 sold 5,930,437 units compared to PS3's 5,813,535. Wow a difference of only 116,902! so how much better really is microsoft doing?

To date there are 6,731,798 ps3's which is one year and 3 weeks. in that time there were 7,190,927 360's.

So my point is PS3 is selling just fine. and i have too much time on my hands.

But the PS3 is coming off two MASSIVE Sony console generation victories, whereas the Xbox 360 was coming off one massive numerical and economic failure.

Sony is expected to be kicking ass, but are instead having said ass nailed to the wall.

Bingo MS was never intended to sell that great, but to stop sony and guess whats happening. So right now MS is feeling pretty good about themselves and sony is deemed as a failure because they just came off the best selling console and are now selling same as 360.

O and the ps3 has had 2 pricecuts in order to stay at the same lvl, 360 had 0 during that same timeframe.

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

That's because: 1. It wasn't selling badly. 2. No competition.

No no it wasnt, but sony has had 2 price cuts to stay in the "not selling badly" catagory. Also the ps2 was quite the bad competition thanks =P.

It was just the expectations. People thought the Wii would be a gimmick, and the PS3 would auto-dominate like they have the last two generations. Even Sony thought so and they made some arrogant statements.

PS360 ftw!

Currently playing..........

Gears of War 2, GTA IV Lost and Damned, Little Big Planet (Yes I said I had no interest but my girl wanted to try it and we did and now Im hooked )

The 360 also had supply shortages for a while after it came out, the ps3 did not.

I have to quote myself again from another thread, these threads never stop

"Comparing Xbox 360 and PS3 first year sales isn't fair. Back when Xbox 360 was released, It was the only next gen console of the time and consumers aren't as ready in upgrading consoles than when PS3 was released. This coupled with the fact that everyone was was waiting for the much hyped PS3, Xbox 360 was struggling with consumer acceptance.

From this standpoint, PS3 was set to benefit. So from the chart above, although the PS3 is running a similar curve with Xbox 360, it's doing worse."

 Totaly agree with you.

Also when you take certain factors into account:-

-like the 360 having no direct comepetition for the 1st year.

-PS3 launching with a very expensive price tag.

-really bad press

-direct compition with the 360 and Wii since launch

Then the PS3 really hasn't done that bad at all, infact it's done very good in keeping close to the 360 sales despite the above factors.

There is no what happened last generation adn what happened this generation. Yes, however, the outcome of a previous generation, will affect brandname for the upcoming one, but not if it switches quickly, like we saw what DS did before Wii launched.

Otherwise 360 and PS3 launched on equal terms, except 360's launch was probably harder as it launched when PS2 was still pretty beastly, while PS3 got an extra year for it to wear off.

But to those saying 360 was never supposed to sell well, I doubt that's what MS was thinking haha. But 360 was never supposed to sell well because of the last generation. No that's a pathetic excuse. 360 was never supposed to sell cause it was obvious even as the generation started that they had not extended any worldly appeal, which means they'll suffer the exact same fate as last generation. That was the key tick off.

I knew the PS3 was not doing well when two weeks after the PS3 came out I went into Best Buy and saw a big pyramid of about 20 PS3s sitting on the floor in the store untouched.

Also I heard two employees talking and mentioning how they had had several returned because they weren't getting much for them on ebay.
