Forums - PC - Microsoft Reaffirms Commitment To PC Gaming

I love the PC, but if it really happens, it´s just one more stupid decision from Microsoft, one more from the 10000 ridiculous decisions they made in the last couple of years.

But, hey, i hope they do it, i hope they bring Halo 3, ODST, WARS and REACH to the PC.

The same can be made with GEARS 2 and 3.

And while you are at it, bring Alan Wake to the PC aswell

Fable III is already there

I really hope they do it, because that´s the day millions will sell their Xboxs, as there  will be no reason to have that fricking console.

My hate for MS grows by the second, so....i really hope they do it, they are stupid enough for it.

I think that the player base for the 360 is different enough from the PC one that it wouldn't really hurt the console that much. I mean there are a ton of games that are PC/360 now and that doesn't seem to hurt the 360 that much. A few ports of old games is not going to make a huge impact. And as much as I would like to play games like REACH on PC, I would prefer PC exclusives myself, games built from the ground up to take advantage of the PC platform.

How about some action, Microsoft?

Oh, they're bringing Fable III to PC, that means they should be completely forgiven!

I agree with that, PC  exclusives is the way to go, not make console ports, that´s just stupid.

And it´s not about games going to the PC hurting the console, is  about that exclusives are extemely important (something that MS clearly doesn´t understand).

Exclusives are important, not for bragging rights (i have that game and you don´t), but because it gives respect for the console they are in, they give it a name, an identity.

If the PC has everything that the Xbox has, there is no point is getting a Xbox, unless you are a tool, in love with MS to the point is buying anything they throw at you.

But, then again, since Peter Moore left the company (the heart and soul of the XBox), the console has been falling, hard and fast. All MS cares is making money, they have no pride in their own product, they are just in this business because it makes money, not for passion, so, if things continue this way, i bet we will see the games, not only going to the PC, but the PS3 and the Wii as well.

If we realistically think about it, there is no point in MS supporting the PC when they have a console to sell. Unless the rumors that existed back in 08 are true, and the next Xbox will be part of Windows 8 and not a physical console.

Fixed.

Can't say I disagree with a number of other posters in this thread, that MS should put up or shut up. And by putting up, I don't mean shovelling ports onto the PC months or years after the XBox release, or trying to get PC gamers to pay for what they used to get for free. The PC market doesn't need a 'revolution' or to be locked down under a dominant 'leader'. As an open platform all it needs from Microsoft is for the company to stop being so schizophrenic towards PC gaming, and maybe for them to spend just a fraction of the billions that have been poured into the XBox money pit to put MGS back on the path of making original games designed for the PC from the outset.

S.O.S.

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

Actually, there is a very good reason for MS supporting PC gaming- the vast majority of it is done on Windows and Windows and its Office and developer ecosystem is the cash generator for the company. Losing significant market share there is far more detrimental to the company than the prospect of losing out on licensing fees for 360 sales if people buy them for the PC instead. With Apple slowly moving into contention with an OSX Steam client, many games going cross-platform to the Mac with Steamplay, and the iphone absolutely wiping the floor with Windows-based smartphones, there's a real danger that the current small and steady  slippage could become something much larger.

Microsoft backed the wrong horse in the early part of this century- they feared consoles and Sony-made consoles in particular would become convergence devices capable of threatening Windows' dominance. In actual fact it was the emergence of smartphones that is by far the greater threat to them, especially as they've burned through so much money on establishing the XBox and fucked up so spectacularly with stuff like Kin, Windows Phone in general, and the Zune. You have to wonder whether the huge amount of money they're spunking on Kinect is a shit-or-bust punt, as surely there's no way their investors can continue to allow them to squander the amount of money they have been doing for minimal return.

I still say there isn´t.

Windows is their biggest selling product, sure, anyone agrees with that, but, at the end of the day, Windows is an OS, not a gaming platform. It will sell regardless of MS supporting games for it or not.  i said this back in 06, and i say it again, MS need to decide between Game for Windows or the Xbox, because it doesn´t make sense to have it both ways when it comes to games.

As it is, the Xbox lives on Halo, Fable and Forza alone (not talking about Gears, as it is 3rd party). Now imagine Halo and Fable going to the PC (Fable III is already there, Halo I and II were released there). Who in their right mind would buy a console to have one game alone (Forza)? To tell the truth, there is real reason to buy a 360 at this point (i bought mine in 07, when it was the best thing ever, i would never buy it in this day and age), much less if those games go to the PC as well. Exclusives are extremely important, and when i mean exclusives, i mean going to ONE patform only.

The best they could do to prove this committment would be to kill off GFWL quickly and publicly!
