Forums - General - Gamers in business suits

This afternoon I went for a job interview for a postion in marketing/sales manger. While I was waiting for my interveiwer to arrive from whatever they were doing these two guys come out of an office. They looked about 45-50 years old. They were talking about going to play golf. I started thinking I'm probably going to be bored out of my mind by the people working here if I get this job. But then one started saying how they were gonna play Modern warfare 2 after golf. The other said they only play on the weekends because he has no time.

As they left the started to talk about Reach. I was shocked these guys played FPSs let alone any video game at all. I hope I got the job so I can talk to these old guys again and maybe take a look at their gamercard.

Has this happened to anyone else?

At my current job only people who have an xbox or ps3 were the people my age. Anyone older always just had a wii and liked to talk about how wii sports was their favorite game. I guess I always thought older gamers would be working in an in an industry closer to gaming or entertainment.

there is a lot of gamers, its not very niche and quite popular now and back then , so if they don't talk about it , doesn't mean they don't know about it, also i know a lot of people that age play fighters and racers mostly, along with old school RPGs, even with that, they never knew i am a gamer , they know me as a gamer fan more than a music fan, since i always like listening to music when outside, instead of gaming.

I'm a gamer who's going to a congressional hearing tomorrow, does that mean anything?

This is why you don't stererotype people.  Also, start playing golf, it's fun and is a good way to get to know other employees and bosses.

You're right I shouldn't have sterotyped them. I don't really announce I'm a gamer either as I'm always talking about either tennis or old movies at work which everyone seems to be surprised I like. I have played golf quite a few times and it was boring and the people I had to play with were just as dull. I hated pretending I enjoy it just to get to know people I didn't like talking to even though it did get me in with my previous boss.

I should ask those guys for a game of Reach over live then we could get to know each other playing something we all enjoy.
