Forums - Sony - Netflix Streaming to PS3 Now Available in Canada

I also have the 60gb limit and its a total joke,  add downloads from ps3/360, watching some Hd content online, browse the web and play online games with a few people doing this in a house and the 60Gb limit can be reached in no time if your not careful.

Hmm, I was just browsing a few other sites, and some people are reporting that the movie and tv show selection is rather poor. Netflix just launched in Canada, so hopefully they'll be continually adding new content over the next few months.

I bet they have Emilly of new moon,  And Royal canadian air farce.

They are probably required to carry those shows.

Yeah I take it netflix streaming isn't going to be very popular in Canada given the bandwidth limits. I'm capped at 60 GB/month myself. At the moment I'm downloading TV shows and movies (illegally. lol) at XviD quality (roughly 175 MB for 20-22 minute episodes. That's about 525 MB/hour). But with Netflix, their SD streaming takes up 1 GB of bandwidth/hour. So basically by going "legit", I'd have to effectively double my bandwidth usage. Which wouldn't make me too pleased.

 And the selection is poor. They don't have the TV shows I want to watch (except for Boondocks. I gotta see Season 2 and 3) and while I haven't taken a good look at their movie selection, I've heard that it's not very recent.

If Netflix.ca can put up all the past seasons of Student Bodies (an old discontinued Canadian show that I liked to watch when I was a pre-teen/teen. I've been looking all over the internet trying to find episodes) on there, I'd be willing to pay $8/month though. Seriously. lol.

lol student bodies. cody's dad in the show used to live next door to me

@ OT,
so essentially you download stuff straight off netflix and can watch it on your tv at 8$/month?

@ShadowSnake

 You can stream (not download) whatever tv shows or movies you want (from their available selection) and it costs only $8/month. And yes you can watch on your TV (hooked up to your PS3, 360, Wii or laptop/desktop computer). You have to make sure that you don't go over your ISP's monthly bandwidth limit though. Or else you'll have to be paying your ISP extra and that $8/month deal doesn't sound too hot anymore! lol.

Personally I think $8/month is well worth the convenience of being able to access the TV shows and movies you want instantly. Sure you can download all that stuff onto your hard drive (even better deal than streaming) for FREE if you go through illegal routes. But torrents are very risky and using stuff like mIRC or direct download sites for obtaining this content is a pain in the ass. That said, the 1 GB/hour for streaming SD content thing (double the bandwidth of just downloading the pirated Xvid versions) is going to hinder the adoption of Netflix in Canada and the selection needs to be a lot better. Like I said, aside from Boondocks, they don't have any TV shows I wanna watch. And they don't have recent movies. So I'm gonna pass on Netflix. At least for now.

Americans get a better deal with Netflix because they get physical media rentals too. Even in the US, Netflix's streaming selection is not that great but their DVD/Blu-Ray selection is stellar.
