That's a strange way of looking at things. I'll just stick to the fact that he thinks like a businessman, and only like a businessman. |
I agree and would like to add more. Upper management is not paid solely for taking the heat when stock prices drop and to wine and dine advertisers and other funders.
Upper management's main role is to steer the ship, be the captain as they say. While the rest of the crew from middle management down is focused on the here and now, upper management is there to provide them a vision for the future where the here and now is temporary, while the future is limitless.
Kotick, love him, like him, or detest him, does a very good job in providing a vision for the future in interviews laced between his barbs at his competitors. Also, by throwing out barbs and taking the heat and hate, Kotick is drawing attention away from the developers like Blizzard who don't want to answer questions such as why Starcraft 2 is imbalanced in favor of the terran steamrolling any opponent with a Medic, Marine, and Marauder ball. So the least Kotick can do for Blizzard when their stuff is not up to snuff is to do an interview, throw out some barbs, and have the whole gaming community argue incessantly on what Kotick said for a couple of weeks or a month, allowing Blizzard to conveniently ignore publicly addressing imbalance in their games.
