Forums - Gaming - How bad will the fanboy motion control wars get?

Darth Tigris said:

But that's just it:  its not about Kinect vs. Move or Move vs. Wii or Wii vs Kinect.  Its STILL PS3/Sony fanboys vs 360/MS fanboys vs. Wii/Nintendo fanboys.

Yeah, I'm talking about people that don't plan on buying any of them but still can't resist taking shots at the one that's for a competing platform.

So will it escalate?  No.  As some have mentioned, this is just another outlet for an already established fanboy war.  Of course that doesn't make it any less irritating . . .

There really isn't going to be a"motion cotrol war." Nintendo won't allow that. They have been trying to avoid the red ocean with the Wii, and they're not going to let Sony change that. By the time the Move and Kinect really get going,  Nintendo will simply move on to new technologies like the Vitality Sensor, 3DS, and whatever new quirk the next Nintendo console has. I think Nintendo has learned from the red ocean wars of the Super NES, N64, and Gamecube. Any time Sony or MS tries to copy them, they will probably just move on and make something else, at which point that new thing will be emulated, and the circle of life repeats.

Do you just like, conveniently forget about past gens, where Sony dominated generations and how Nintendo even came 3rd last gen? You seem to think Nintendo is impenetrable.

One day you're going to get a nasty wake up call.

You've just proved my point even further as to why Nintendo wants to avoid the red ocean. When they get in the red ocean with the bigger companies, Sony and MS, and try to beat them at their own game so to speak, they always lose (N64 Gamecube, almost SNES). What they excel in is going their own direction (NES, Wii), which is why they won't allow themselves to be caught up in that again.

I don't see how you gathered from my post that Nintendo was always dominant... Quite the opposite.

I gotta agree with Seece on this one, nintendo fans seem to feel like there is a certain inevitability to nintendos continued dominance. Which is probably how nintendo fans felt as the snes was leading into the N64.

Your whole post just stinks of spin. Nintendo had no choice but to do the Wii, if they did a core console they'd have likely done worse than the Gamecube. Correct me if I have this wrong, but you seem to think Nintendo live and breath innovation? Where was that inovation during the Gamecube era, or when the PS1 beat whatever console was up against it?

You just speak like you think Nintendo have owned the gaming scene since they entered, they havn't, they're capable of faltering again and at some point will. They have the least loyal audience this gen despite having the largest userbase, and unless they pull another Wii out of the bag again, they're in the most dangerous position.

Everyone, and you, seem to be so sure Nintendo have another Wii up their sleeve, and then again after that.

Hrm, you seem to have misunderstood his post. He basically said Nintendo has learned from the previous gens (SNES, N64, Gamecube), which is why they won't repeat the same mistakes. They've learned quite a bit from the success of the DS, Wii.

I don't know what the bold is supposed to mean, because if anything, they have the most loyal audience. I see complaints everywhere about how people only buy Nintendo games because of their name on the box.

As for another "Wii out of the bag," of course, there's no guarantee they'll pull one off. If any game company will, though, your best bet is on Nintendo. Even if they can't manage that by next gen, the Wii has been successful enough that a follow-up should do relatively well, assuming they don't completely screw things up.

edit: Whoops, this is way off topic. I blame Metallicube.

I agree with the poster below me, though. I know some fanboy-ish console fans myself, and they don't give a crap about these motion controls.

Not as bad as the console war in general. Most core gamers (CoD/Halo, etc...ya know the main people who buy PS3 and 360's) don't care about motion controls anyways and will continue to buy FPS games and argue whether Resistance and Killzone or Halo is better.

I think if Move and Kinect sell equally it won't get bad.  If Kinect sells much more than Move, PS3 fanboys will go apeshit and vice versa.  That's my prediction and I based it on ideas that I came up with and labeled them as facts.

Wow, first of all, way to completely misconstrue my post. Are you like, trying to pick a fight or something? I REALLY don't appreciate it when people put words in my mouth. Where exactly in my post did I say Nintendo lives and breaths innovation?

Also, in regards to the bold statements. I laughed when I read these, because this is EXACTLY what I'm trying to say! Nintendo will not remain in the red ocean (in this case of motion controls), because when they compete directly with bigger companies like Sony and MS, they usually DO falter, as N64 and Gamecube have shown. This is why Nintendo will try to again separate themselves form the competition with a new technology, because this is generally where they excel, as has been shown with the NES, DS, and Wii. They will not remain in the red ocean of motion controls for long.

I'm not sure what it is about my posts that seem to be firing you up so much...

Blue ocean strategy is no exclusive to Nintendo. Sony and MS probably are employing this strategy, I mean they are not naive - it is normal for a company to study their competitor's strategies over the years.
