When the Wii first launched, we were all enticed by the promises and prospects of motion controls in games.
I think everyone wanted a true Jedi Knight game with 1:1 swordfighting, and epic online melee/force power action.
Thinking back, was there some game or type of game you hoped to see come to Wii that never did? (Could still happen but that's seeming increasingly unlikely)
Do you think Move / Kinect could make that dream a reality?
Here are some I've been hoping for and have remain unfulfilled:
A isometric WRPG on Wii with four player co-op (and online). Image a Baldur's Gate or Freedom Force with effectively four mouses so everyone can sit together and control their own characters. My silbings and friends and I used to do that anyway waaaaaay back in the Pool of Radiance days (taking turns, turn based), so a game like that would have been hugely fun.
GTA Wii. After the immense fun Godfather and Scarface brought, and later Bully, using motion, I'd always hoped for a true GTA on Wii. Especially with co-op. Heck a port of GTA Trilogy with added motion/IR would have been great. But nadda...
Pokemon Snap - Really not my type of game, but my son loved it to death on 64 and again on VC. It would have been perfectly suited to Wii's controls. Why not Nintendo?
RTS - Wii is the perfect console for Real Time Strategy with IR pointing and PC ports would have been easy. Adventure games ported over. Why not RTS?
Pokemon MMO - nuff said.
Super Mario Bros. (Smash Bros!) Paintball - Just think of the possibilities. Would have outsold CoDMW2. Yes it would too, 'cause your sister/girlfriend would be kicking your ass on it.
Orange Box - Portal at least. I mean come on!! It runs of PCs less powerful than the Wii. Frig, runs on my laptop and nothing runs on that. A Wii port would have been easy. Damn VG snobs.
Oblivion (or the like). A Move Patch could happen. Would be cool, at least for a while, until your arms got sore, but who cares? We all finished the game.
Myst (or the like). PS3 is getting this with the Move enabled Heavy Rain. Lucky bastards. For once I envy you.
Ironically for years I pinned for the game EA has just given us - a hockey game using the wiimote as a stick. Oddly, now that it's finally out, I'm not so thrilled about it anymore. I'll get it, all the reviews say it's damn fun, but not at full price. 2 years ago, it'd have been pre-ordered.
I doubt many of these will see the light even with Move / Kinect. An Oblivion patch could happen. A Dragon's Age patch re-instating the isometric with mouse/ir controls could happen on PS3 (that might make me get a PS3) but very unlikely ever add co-op. Portal 2 likely will use Move or patch it in later. RTS might happen, and really SHOULD, with Move. And GTA? If there's a GTA 5 (which plays like SA) with Move controls... I will buy a PS3. Or for a real Jedi Knight game (not Force Unleashed II and definitely not for that Kinect onrails SW crap)
What about you? Anything you wanted to see and maybe with Move/Kinect someday might?
