Time Splitters 2

I edited your question a bit, because if the word 'shooters' was left out, I would have to list pretty much the entire catalogue of Nintendo's big franchises, as well as the majority of the strategy and role playing genres :P

I also added console because there are heaps of PC shooters aged 9 or more that are still great fun.

Anyway, seeing as this is a thread for stating opinions, I found the multiplayer of Timesplitters 2 to be much much more enjoyable than the multiplayer for Halo:CE. I never played Halo:CE single player, but TS2 has a really cool single player mode also.

I too don't see why Halo is quite so well liked

Because it was revolutionary, it had amazing graphics in it's day, it was fun, well paced, had a great story line that is deeper than some people realize, and had an aura of mystery behind it. I have yet to find another game that rivals it in all those aspects. I don't see why Halo is so hated upon.

I don't hate the game, by the way. I just don't enjoy it as much as other people do/did, nor as much as I enjoy other similar games.

It had good graphics, yes (although making a game with good graphics is quite easy if you hide your characters in space marine armour) But I don't think it became so popular purely from graphics

As I said, I find the majority of similar games to be more fun than Halo, so you can't just say "it is fun" and have me instantly change my mind.

I'll admit, I don't know anything about the single player, I'm talking about the game as a purely multiplayer experience.

Anyway, you're obviously allowed to like the game, but you have said nothing that tells me why everyone likes this game so much - I rarely hear "I love Halo for the single player" What is it about the multiplayer that puts this game above Goldeneye, Perfect dark or Time Splitters 2 (obviously graphics are better than the N64 games and don't say the LAN multiplayer because playing with 16 players would be a once in a while thing for some gamers, and many would never have done it.)

If you can't think of anything but "It's fun" then that is perfectly acceptable by the way, you're allowed to find a game fun but not be able to vocalise the reason why :)

Dude, I just listed a plethora of reasons why the game was good, did you not read my post? I guess it's ok to cherrypick one word out of a long list of given reasons and use it to generalize and reduce the game. *rolls eyes*

You described Bioshock by accident.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

No I didn't.

Halo was a great game for it's time, and I still think it is fun. However, not every game is for everyone.

Honestly when I got an Xbox, I think around 2002 and got Halo CE with it..

I really did not find the game amazing..

I finished the game did not had any idea what was going on..

Spoilers:

Their were only two levels I enjoyed...The second one were you go out of the crashed pod and need to find other survivors of the pillar of Autumn...And the one where you get dropped on a Island and can drive whole around it. But the rest were most of the time annoying and boring. The first level of the flood...So horrible....I remember I could not find the way out and had a hard time finding it;..and also the other level were you have to follow spark in the installation and continue got attacked by the flood...

Their was really a lot of copypasting going on....They easily could make those levels shorter but then the singleplayer would probably only last for four hours I guess.

Story wise I still think Bungie fail...Their are so many questions and things going on that makes no sense..

For example SGT. Johnson....You see a vid in Halo Ce where he gets attacked by the flood...Did he survive no idea;...Then at the end of the game you know you are the only one left and an pelican...But that pelican crash in the last level so you escape halo with an other ship ...then you can assume you are the only one left.  and johnson probably died....Surviving the flood and surviving the destruction of the Halo ring no way..

Probably when they were making Halo 2 Bungie did not expect that Johnson would be that popular and brought him back;...But instead of giving a good explanation how he survived they just put him in the game and you may wonder;..Really makes sense that you hear you were the only one left in Halo Ce and then you play Halo 2 and one of the first persons who say hi is Johnson...Yeah makes sense..

If really Bungie cared about the story they should have done it different example:
You know that their were Covenant  on Halo who survived, they should have captured Johnson (covenant would do that to find the location of earth) and when playing through Halo 2 their should have been a level where you find  a prisoner that ends up to be Johnson;.;(Could be an emotional moment if doing it right).

Nah if you only played the Halo games I really don't see how you can like the story;..At his best it is B-movie material, but serious I think Bungie thought...'The Halo fans don't want a good story they want fun gameplay'...

But if you read the books like Halo the fall of Reach...Then yes the Halo Unverse is amazing..;And in fact when I read the book and played Halo CE again I loved it....And so I end up with around 10 figurines of Halo, 7 books and 5-6  halo comic series but that is not thx to Bungie but thx to guys as Eric Nylund.

Yeah, Halo 2 was actually a huge departure from the actual story line, but MS gave Bungie 11 weeks to crank out the game. Remember the E3 trailer for it? There was a lot of stuff in there that never made it into the actualy game, still H2 had some of the best multiplayer maps, I'm glad they will be bringing them back for Reach.

Oh, and I think part of what made Johnson a huge success was the fact that he is a baddass and survived along with the master chief (I think they do describe how he managed in H2...but it's been so long since I've played the campaign that I very well could be wrong.)

@Ironman: Yups, I think if people could vote for the most awesome Halo character it will end up being Johnson...  For me it would be a close call between the Arbiter and Spartan Kelly :).  sigh wished we saw her in the Halo games.  I think in Halo 2 MC ask the question how Johnson has survived but he gives an answer in the line of 'That is a long story' no real explanation though...

And yes I remember the Halo 2 trailer, and I know the game was unfinished when they launch it (normally would have 2-3 extra levels?, A different ending(level), two extra vehicles, and minimum one extra covenant species)

Halo:CE is the best Halo IMO.
Best Multiplayer.
Best Single player.
And best played on PC.

I think The Maw (last mission of campaign) is probably my favorite FPS level of all time. I've beaten it with my cousin on legendary numerous times, and it just never gets old.

All of that is explained in First Strike, it explains what happens between Halo:CE and Halo 2 and how the MC gets back to Earth
