What is the best and the worst Final Fantasy for you and say why ?

Total:0

My favorite Final Fantasy is still FF VI.  It was the first FF game that I played, and it is the game that actually got me into RPGs.

I actually don't really have a least favorite, as I'm fairly open-minded and can appreciate many types of games, so I've been able to enjoy all of the FF games that I have played (VI, VII, Tactics, VIII, IX, X, X-2, XII, and XIII).

Worst is Final Fantasy XIII. Just wasn't the (Final Fantasy) game I imagined. Nothing like it infact. Worst FF game I've played.

Best....hard to choose. Given recognition to FF9's awesome soundtrack, I love FF7's story and it's nostalgia but I prefer FF8's gameplay.

...but that's not denying FF7 doesn't have great gameplay so I'll go for that. Final Fantasy 7.

Hmm, pie.

FFVII is my favorite with VI as a close runner up. Both had great casts of characters, involving plots (even if VII got a bit confusing around the third act), and kept their character management systems simple and uncluttered. VI's was hugely diverse and had their own thing going on. Plus the open-world freedom of the World of Ruin was a nice change of pace. The Esper and Materia systems were simple and intuitive in character growth and flexibility. Admittedly though I just used the same characters near the end (usually the ones whose Limit Breaks/special skills I liked the most).

Which leads me to why VIII and XII are the ones I can't stand. VIII was badly written and had by far the WORST protagonist (and arguably the worst cast) in the entire history of the series as Squall had absolutely no justification for acting like an unlikeable, cooler-than-thou jerk. XII's problem was that the characters had nothing to them. Even the ones that had potential fell flat due to lack of development and most of the story problems (slipshod narrative and flowery dialogue) I attribute to the game only being half-done. And don't even get me started on the character customization. The Junction system in VIII was a test in how much you liked staring at numbers and engaging in busywork that insures that you will never, ever want to cast magic. Plus you could break the game by just spamming GF's over and over again with no significant penalty. XII was also a cluttered mess. The Gambit system COULD work, but when the fighting is turn-based in what is essentially a real-time environment it HURLED me out of the game at terminal velocity. That and the summons and Limit Breaks were useless and overpowered (sometimes) respectively.

@classicgamingwiz  I think Kingdom Hearts is more Final Fantasy than 13

favorite is obviously ff7, best story, music, characters, battle system and equip system

least favorite is tough, probably 12,  i loved the battle system surprisingly, it was well designed and easy to get used to, but the story and characters were so boring.  i felt like the story was more politics than fantasy.  the characters resemble the characters from 10 way too much imo.  ashe is almost identical to yuna and vaan is like tidus.  i think if they would have taken the story from 13 and the battle system from 12, that would be one hell of a game.

Hmm, favorite is FFII (IV) and FFIII (VI), not sure which I like better.  My least favorite is probably FF or FFX.

Best FFXII: For the epic story and totally immersive world, the fact the characters were somewhat normal (though they had magic balthier and fran were only pirates rather than super soldiers, half espers, crystal chosen awrriors of light etc etc) and the villainous occuria being so awesomely powerful they justified their positions as gods (they actually had god like powers, unlike gods in some other games (not just FF'S), and they were so subversive in their methods a lot of people that played didn't even realise they were the villains. Plus Balthier as a character (best character ever, anywhere IMO) and Yiazmat as an (optional) enemy boss fight immortalised this game for me.

Worst FFIX: Story was too much like a cross between crystal chronicles and shrek (they definitely targeted the younger generation) and the intense easyness of the game. phoenix was a way too powerful summon, with auto potion, auto regen, auto haste and auto life for the last 15 hours of the game it was actaully impossible to die. Plus the abundfance of gil meant you ended up with 99 of every possible item.

Still even the worst FF is a great game and mops the floor with 90% of everything else on the market IMO, even the oldies like FFI through FFIII still are more fun than a lot of the new rpg's around

FFXIII and FFXII

FF13 because of the linearity, level capping and overall difficulty in the game, took out a lot of fun for me. Im not asking for my games to be a cake walk but the game should have been treated like past games from a difficulty stand point.

FFXII
Story and battle system though I'll give it another try eventually

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi
