Forums - Gaming - Valve:Assumptions of XBox Live 'such a train wreck'

Interesting how you presented your quotes in the op.  They are not completely representative of the actual article AND quoted out of order in how they orignally appeared...a bit disingenuous, but maybe unintentional.

Bottom line however is that yes, they thought that XBOX Live would change because it was a "train wreck" when it came to updating thier games.

They have garnered quite a bit of success with their games on the 360 platform though, so I doubt this means they are suddenly going to abandon it.

Valve really has the: "oh it's unecessarly complicated... let's just not do it then" attitude... were they not PC gods, i'd despise them... but there it's really "we want to share the fun... they won't let us... so we'll make the effort of deving on PS3 as they're willing to let us share the fun".

imho it's MS's own fault, the only reason they are going multiplat is because MS didn't react to their complaints.... the games will still be best on PC though :p

I'd just like them to shut up already. They make some great games, but Gabe Newell has been whining all throughout this gen, it's just that he's switched from the PS3 to Xbox Live because the timing's convenient. These guys need a PR guy with a sole job of running around with duct tape for whenever they open their mouths.

I've played Portal, and I got over the uniqueness of the level design pretty quickly. That's all that game has going for it imo, so I don't care about a sequel even if it does have co-op. To be blunt, I prefer shooting people in the face over shooting holes in the wall, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way.

I don't get it.  Most multiplatform games I have played always seem to get their updates, patches, bug fixes, etc out first on Xbox Live.

Is he saying MS charges for them to have updates?  Because if so, doesn't Sony charge for bandwidth which updates will use?

I guess I am not following what he is saying from the small quotes out of context provided in the OP.  Someone want to expand on this?  I was always under the impression that developers loved XBL more than PSN for a plethora of reasons.

Yes, I think Valve has made a living this gen of putting thier foots in thier collective mouths, but you know what are you gonna do?

The article isn't half as bad as the op makes it out to be though.  It's actually a fairly interesting read, though I will admit to being a bit of a Valve fan-boy.  Half-Life is one of my favorite games of all time, so I give them a small pass for past glory.

The Orange Box and Left for Dead 1 & 2 were succesful games on the 360...  Valve maybe trying to appease Sony fans for dissing the PS3 earlier this gen, but they aren't leaving the 360.

Edit: HAHA, I have a BBA and an MBA and I said "FOOTS".  Man I'm leaving that thier for pure stupidity's sake.

Gabe's a bit of a boob if you ask me.  He made a few new deals with the PS3 so I guess he feels he has to insult MS now?   He never got his way early on with the PS3 so he had to talk major shit about it.  And now that Sony has built up a better install base I guess he needs to make amends and talk shit about MS.  Wait till next time he takes a piss on both MS and Sony and goes with the Wii, that will be really fun to hear.

Now it sounds like Valve is using the PS3 to get back at 360, like when a guy tries to get a hotter temporary girlfriend to get back at his EX.
