Forums - General - Post your art (comic books)!

I know a few of you are artists around here and after reading all the participation in the comic book thread, I figured a few of you must draw stuff for fun on the side. I've been working on drawing by forcing myself to post them on my old site and I'm trying to get three drawings a week posted. Anyway, here's my latest entry of Strange. I realized last week that despite my love for the character, I've never tried to draw the guy. I may ink and color this piece. I haven't decided.

Does anyone else want to post stuff?

You're about 10 years too late for me.  Used to draw stuff all of the time.  I even sent some of my work to Malibu Comic's Ultraverse which prompted them to send me a copy of "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way" (which hurt my feelings but I was in high school at the time so what did I expect?) and made me a part of something called the Fan Advisory Network (F.A.N.).  They'd send me black and white photo copies of comics that were coming out and I'd write back with my opinion.  In the end, I wound up just keeping/reading the free comics and never sending my opinion (Sorry, Dianne!).  I even told people at school that I wrote the comics and that my "comic book name" was Timothy L. Dread (because a guy named Tim Eldred did some of the lettering in some of the books I was sent).

But, with the discovery of poon tang in 1998, my time with a pencil soon came to an end.  So, no.  I have nothing to post (and your Doc Strange puts my stuff to shame, anyway!) but hopefully this post will keep the thread alive long enough for us to see some VGChartz submissions!!  I wanna see 'em, too!

I used to draw ALL THE TIME. I even majored in illustration on my first trip through college. Then I ended up as a graphic designer, which was creative enough so I didn't feel the need to draw any more... then I drifted into web design and still didn't draw. Now that I'm almost completely removed from the creative field by working in IT and web development, I'm forcing myself to get back into it. It's never too late, d21lewis! I've found that it takes very little time to get back to the skill level you were at when you quit previously (though it still irritates me to see my work about on par with the stuff I was doing as a 19 year old).

It's inspiring, Rocketpig.  Drawing was something I used to love so much.  I'd find a quiet place and spend hours upon hours creating.  I'd look for models in magazines, comic books, TV Guide or whatever as inspiration.  I filled up so many Academie Sketch Pads that it was unreal--and I remember such a sense of satisfaction when I finished.  I never tried to color anything (how could I?) but I did ink a lot.  It just made everything look so much better and so much more permanent.  But, like I said, it seems like a lifetime ago.  All of the little rules of anatomy are probably long gone from my memory.  And I'm afraid of the disappointment.....but I'm tempted.  Maybe when I get a few days off from work, I'll visit my local supply store.......

I'm finding out the hard way that replenishing my art supplies is far more expensive than I'd like it to be. I'm shopping for a new drafting table now and it's painful because I basically tossed my old one a few years back.

Luckily for me, my girlfriend is an even bigger geek than me so she's super-supportive of me taking time (and spending money) to get back into this stuff. She doesn't even complain about me spending ~$100 a month on comic books and is encouraging me to replace my PS3.

Lol!  My girlfriend doesn't complain about my excessive comic book addiction, either.......because I don't tell her.  It's bad enough that she thinks I spend too much on video games!  Looks like you got yourself a keeper, man.

Yeah, she's pretty great. She even dresses up for sci-fi conventions (and is one of the sub-heads of a pretty large sci-fi convention in Minneapolis) and is willing to watch Star Trek all night. I can't complain about much.

Well, if no one else is going to be any fun, I'll toss up another sketch I did today at lunch:

Cool stuff.  I have zero talent in drawing myself so i've got nothing to post.

And when I say zero talent, I don't mean like the usual can draw kinda ok if they take your time zero talent.

I mean like, I can't make anything look like anything... at all.

Like, can't even draw straight lines or make consistant stick figures.  Really, I hold no artistic talent at all, kinda sad.

I used to write storylines for an RP superhero type deal... but that's it.

Most fun.  Justice League Europe/International.

My old avatar was my art, and now that I have a different laptop I only still have it on my Twitter. It looked great when you photoshopped some vintage effects.
