I'm just curious on what views VGC users have on Kanye West.
In your eyes, is he a genius or a jackass?
Kanye is definitely not on the level or ever will be of 2Pac, the Notorious B.I.G. Eminem, and Jay-Z. His early life with a professor for a mother giving him a solid upper middle class upbringing precluded Kanye's chances of garnering the street credibility to write 5 albums about his time slanging dope on the streets. Rappers need street credibility for longevity, without it they lose the rebel image after 2 multi-platinum albums and become just another super star whose esoteric lyrics are hard to relate to unless you are a millionaire celebrity who has gone to drug rehab.
As for the original question, Kanye is a quite bright, but I would not go so far as genius.
Kanye West has been a jackass, but I do not believe he is a jackass. The immaturity has shown, which make some view him as a jackass.
I like his first two albums. ALOT. Espical late registriation .

The reason why I asked the question is because when the VMA Taylor Swift Incident Happened and it was all over the news, 3/4 of the people called Kanye dumb, a jackass and a whole lot of other insults. The other 1/4 defended Kanye by saying "Shut up fools. Kanye is a genius. His music is the best" etc
So I was just wondering whether people here think he's a genius or a jackass.

You left out the category of "he should die a very violent death," which according to Kanye West occured across the Internet right after the incident.

Anyway, I barely know who he is on account of paying very little attention to shit music and celebrity gossip, his music is bad enough* that I don't care one jot what his personality is like

Yeah that was very common as well and there was also a bunch of minorities who just said stuff like "Swift doesn't deserve the Award. Lady Gaga should've won." "Katy Perry should've won", etc.
Kanye is being a jackass lately and needs to have his ego taken down, but I'll fully admit he's an incredbily talented musical artist (even if his last album was a bit underwhelming). Hopefully he just does it in time though
