Those are some good reasons. Most of the times, when I see people saying those kinds of things, the usual kind of replies that I get is "the game sucked from the get go" or "I can't stand the fugliness of the game" and some other things like that.

May I ask what was that frustrated you late in the game?

POTENTIAL SPOILERS - BE AWARE

I don`t have a problem with the Materia system itself, but I don`t like the way it was implemented, specifically with the "ultimate" weapons for each character.  You obtain the best weapon for someone, but if you want to grow Materia you can`t even use it.  Stupid.  The necessity of chocobo breeding/racing in order to obtain some of the strongest Materia was also frustrating, which resulted in my skipping out on getting them.  I didn`t think the big revelation about Cloud`s past fit in very well with the early parts of the game; he seemed too unfocused as a character.  I also didn`t like the way his relationship with Tifa was portrayed late in the game.  These last two points may have something to do with the shoddy localization, which bothered me far more than the dated graphics.  The final area / boss battle was also underwhelming.

Well, I think the ultimate weapons were meant to be used with Mastered materia only, since it would give you an unfair advantage to have weapons that could deal close to the 9999 damage (if you met the conditions for it), without any kind of setback. Kinda how like the Double or Triple growth weapons/accesories have also very limited slots or no coupling slots.

Chocobo breeding/racing, well that's individual preference I guess. To me, that's the best sidequest ever created in any FF, as it was pretty expansive, and if you didn't use a guide, it actually made you think a lot and figuring out quite a high number of variables to get the desired Gold Chocobo. Plus, while I hated the Chocobo Racing bets, actually racing by yourself was the best way to get GP fast for the unique command materias in Gold Saucer.

I agree that there are quite some bad explained parts in the plot, I've always had trouble with some of it, especially the lack of emphasis in Elphaba and Aeris's past (outside the videos in Icicle Inn, which quite frankly, don't do justice to the status and weight of the Celta Ancients).

Ultimate Weapons suck. They depend on in-battle conditions.

Cloud on his HP, Yuffie on the enemy's level (AKA, worthless against normal enemies), Tifa on how full her limit break is, Vincent on how many enemies he killed, Aerith's only gets stronger if the other members are KO'd, I don't know about Cid and Cait's ultimate weapons, and Barret on how much AP he has on the materia equipped on his weapon.

So yeah, there's absolutely no reason to use them.

When you finailly leave the towns and head twords the overworld. It really becomes a great and you defenitly do get some great freedom in a game like this.

Again, the freedom is not that much, though the world map does give you a larger sensation of freedom  than an enclosed linear pathway. Not until the last end stretch of CD 1 do you actually get the ability to explore the majority of the world map without much restrictions or linearity.

Yeah, and that was the most fun part of the game.

Playing without materia... *grumblegrumble*

really are you joking about this. I can never tell with you dtewi :(

that seriously was my favorite part of the game like i said before

I thought the game was good all the way through.

BUT THAT BITCH STOLE THEM!

I am forever annoyed by it.

that was my favorite. it was so hot when she did that. really

I liked it all the way through as well. But that was my favorite part.

That`s essentially my problem with the materia implementation; I don`t like the idea of a system of magic that is dependent on a character`s equipment.  It`s too arbitrary.  Why should you be penalized for wanting to use the best weapon for your character?  You earned that weapon, it shouldn`t be a burden to use it.

What does FF13 have to do with thinking Sephiroth is mediocre?  Honestly, the localization of the game (meaning FF7) is so poor, none of the characters are very strong.

I actually found Cait Sith`s to be quite useful, and Yuffie`s is great for morphing.

Vanille is a terrible character.

Vivi is the best protagonist in FF.

Kefka is the best antagonist in FF.
