Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft to increase price of Xbox Live Gold

I kind of wished microsoft introduced another type of membership. I wish they had membership just for playing online and party chat for like $30-$40. Because honestly i dont care about last.fm (have an ipod), facebook (have a computer), twitter (have a computer), and ESPN (have cable). With all of these useless services thay should have introduced a platinum membership for $60 for people who actually use these services.

Thank you!  This is what I am saying.  Like you I don't use those extra services that XBL Gold offers.  I just want to play games online!  Unfortunately, I love Halo and playing some multiplayer with friends online.  I think a yearly service for only gaming online for $29.99 is reasonable, but still pricey.  I love COD and I can play multiplayer online for free on the PS3.  However, I love Halo and that's only on the 360.  I hate dilemmas like this :(.

You let me know when you find a free service on PC that integrates all your games both offline and online with a single profile, integrates cross game chat, party chat up to 8 people, includes matchmaking services for fair and balanced gaming experiences, also offers services like full game downloads, demos, videos, netflix, facebook, last.fm, ESPN, achievements, etc.

You mean like X-fire?  Which is free, btw.

I said ONE free service that integrates ALL of those things.

X-fire gives you a single profile with cross-game or even out of game voice chat, friends list, lists what games you play, can jump you straight into games with better than matchmaking options, the rest of the stuff you mentioned is either free anyway or part of silver thus you aren't paying for it with the Gold fee.

So in other words there is no free service that integrates all those features in one place.  Thanks :)

Stop trolling, I just proved a service that offers all of what Gold provides for free and you ignore it.

No you didn't.  Xfire doesn't offer full game downloads, user created games, facebook, netflix, last.fm, ESPN, matchmaking, etc.

I'm not trolling at all.

You are listing things that are free or have additional subscriptions ON TOP of Gold subscription, thus are not a reason to subscribe to Gold.  Gold offers very little and what it does offer can be found for free using X-fire.

What he is saying is if you want all of those in one place you have to have xbox live gold. There is no other way right now unless you use multiple services and devices. I have yet to use an online service that feels as smooth, easy and clean as xbox live. I will admit I haven't used xfire but as far as I know you can't use that on xbox, and I use steam for all my computer needs.

I would also like to add that the match making is very good. At least for me, I always seem to get into pretty even matches regardless of what game I play online.

I've visited other forums like Neogaf and such, and it seems there's quite a few people switching from X360 to PC now. Seems for many of them the price increase was the last drop.

How they going to play their halo?

I don't comprehend the angr xbox fans is displaying with ps and wii fans here, the price went up and they think it's a bad move and it's a discusssion after all. Just like the 599$ price tag was discussed to no end. We can just go back to those threads and post "IT'S OUR MONEY WE ARE FREE AND WE CHOSE TO WASTE IT!!11!!" Seriously..

Seriously, though, over $10 a year?

Personally, I can't imagine anyone "quitting" XBL over that unless they're either A) taking a high moral ground against MS profits out of some sort of imagined general principle, or B) realizing that they hardly use XBL anyway and that the $10 increase is a reminder that they don't need to be paying money to play on their Xbox anymore for something they weren't getting use out even at $50 (or $40 or whatever they paid) a year.

Most of the latter simply won't renew their subscriptions when they expire, but that's hardly what anyone could consider to be some sort of mass exodus from XBL. Those who are already fully invested in the service will either shrug it off, or bite the (cheap if you use it regularly) bullet.

It may also be because PC Gaming is now cheaper than Xbox 360, and some people are reminding themselves that due to the fact that most Xbox 360 games are on PC, they might as well jump to PC.

More importantly, will this affect 360 sales?  Anybody think that this will push the 360 down to 185K weekly?

They don't need to know before they buy it...
