every preview I've read for this game basically states its incredible and will be quite possibly the definitive FPS of the generation.
Here's some quotes from Joystiq's preview
"These touches stand out against the almost subtle enhancements of Reach's improved technology. Spear is one of those just look how far you can see levels, almost bragging how good the draw distance is; or how many of those Covenant troops, each an individual AI, are all over place."
And here's what Kotaku said.
The second mission I played, Tip of the Spear, was the grandest level of a Halo game I've ever played. We were out on rocky hills, dozens of Warthogs racing toward dozens of Covenant. Past an intro cutscene and into the playable action, my Noble 6 was in the thick of a firefight against a rush of Covenant troops. I looked toward the sky and counted at least 30 vehicles in combat in the air, UNSC craft vs. Covenant ships big and small. In the distance I saw rows of tanks against huge Covenant walkers. For part of this mission you're driving a Warthog that is armed with some very powerful rockets. You're dealing with massive enemy Wraith tanks and the new Halo Reach enemy vehicle, the Revenant, which is tank in its own right, bigger than a Ghost and smaller than a Wraith (it's in the bottom image of this post). In this mission a Halo game finally feels again like one did when you first hit land in the original Halo: it feels not like a battle but like a war.
Awesome! Can't wait for this game.
I hope it does live up to these comments.

I've yet to hear a negative preview of Reach. I like that people feel it faster-paced and full of constant action. I do think it's going to be the biggest [pure] FPS this gen. I don't think it has -so far- that much competition. The original Modern Warfare was fun but not that kind of buggy and short and I have some problems with Killzone. I think it has a good concept but until they fix the controls, give it a better story [without so many forgettable characters] more variety and replay value I won't take it into consideration.

Black Ops will be one big gaping hole after Halo Reach gets through with it.
i thought this was a safe bet! well, looks like there's not much people who thinks like us!
I'm Back! - Proud owner of the best doomed handheld of all time!
gotta be kidding me right???
as much as i love killzone 2, the only thing its got over halo 3 is graphics...
halo 3 has got it in gameplay, fun, controls...
with halo 3 you just keep coming back... its fun factor is off the charts...
Haha hasn't it pretty much proven that already. I mean the other Halo games have shown that, so shouldn't be to surprising. No one does it like Bungie does, and their farewell game to the series is looking to be their best yet. But if we talk about best multiplayer shooter, I still consider Halo 3 to be the best so all it has to do is beat that... which is very possible. Best overall shooter though, it is going to be hard to be the Half-Life series haha.
