windows should have their own free version of antivirus. It's just not automatically installed and a lot of people don't know about it.

Hell, I sometime forgot about it 'cause it's always been that way for so long.

Anyhow, I have Avast! installed and it's working fine for me. I don't even notice it running other than the icon on the taskbar. Which is most important. I hate antivirus popups asking me to update and/or buying a license, which McAffee is guilty of.

avg never got a trojan or spyware since 2006 using it

I've been AVG and quite pleased with it. It's only failed me once or twice, and that was more my fault.

I have Avast, Malwarebytes, and some add ons for firefox. I'm trying to keep my new laptop working for atleast a year.

Add me to the list of those that highly recommend Microsoft Security Essentials.  But don't just take our words for it.  Make sure and read this:
