Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft: Kinect give us 5 years more

Yes don't expect a XBOX 720 soon I guess

Microsoft Corp. will continue to offer the Xbox 360 for the next five years, expanding the lifespan of the console to 10 years, said Chris Lewis, vice president for interactive entertainment business in Europe....“Kinect really gives us, I think, a very genuine additional five years,” Lewis said in an interview today at the Gamescom computer-games fair in Cologne, Germany. “What Kinect does is broaden us out to users that we weren’t addressing in the past.”

I won't have to worry about next-gen until 2015? FUCK YEA

You know, this doesn't really fit the topic but since I don't see a better place to ask Ill do it here. Why do game companies and gamers alike assume that to get people to game you need some shallow, crappy game like wii sports, sport champions, kinectimals etc.? All of us on this site are "core gamers" and we certainly didn't get started on such nonsense. Wouldn't it be better to give them fun experiences that challange them slightly so you  make new gamers and not just people jumping in for 2 seconds of fun then going right back to movies/books/tv ?

Back in our days we were just a bunch, today there're millions. So if you go for a wide ausience you need products that fit wide audiences.

This is a no brainer since Wii with it's inferior hardware has 48% of the market. For better or for worst Wii has change the direction of consoles. Expect more shallow motion control games in the future. There will of course be more hardcore game from both HD consoles yet they already have that market.

It might grab their attention but it certainly won't make long lasting gamers out of them.

5 years of what? If everyone release their consoles before 2015, why would publishers support the 360? It ain't no PS2 and Microsoft don't have the studios or the weird Japanese market to support the console with Sakura Wars 2 and a God of war type game.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Oh God please no. I don't want to look at shitty 720p games having trouble reaching even 30 fps for next five years.

5 more years....Well thank God I got a new gaming laptop. Now all I have to hope for are quality PC exclusives. Then again, almost every single hit PC game nowadays is ported, which is a definite plus in a few years when my gaming laptop will be outdated.

Thats good
