Forums - Microsoft - Xbox360 will have 10 year life span - thanks to kinect

360 will longer more than 10 years... Next Xbox will give lost to M$ that will be compensated with 360 on the market that will profit by unit sold.

Around the Network

They can say whatever they want but the consumer decides when the next XBox will come out.

Three important factors play in the release of the next xbox

1) Demand - When the 360 hits $100 *with* a hard drive, how many people will continue to buy them? How much will MS profit? If people keep buying them and they keep profiting then they will hold off a bit more.

2) The Developers - Usually we would get a good amount of decent launch titles from third party support, but if the developers think It's too early to work on a next gen console then they won't be on board and that will hamper the launch progress of the next system.

3) The compeition - What is Sony doing? What is Nintendo doing? I still think the competition holds the key as to when the next system will come out. For example right now the Wii is lagging in sales, just barely ahead of the PS3 WW - this could be sending a strong signal to Nintendo to make the next Wii within the next two years. They already cut the price once and I'm not sure they are willing to cut again. Microsoft does not want to be left behind (infact they want to be first, see the 360 launch) so I bet they are trying to read what Nintendo is going to do in anticipation being first out of the gate.

I can see the original Xbox 360 lasting another 3 years if Natal has a strong reception and continues to sell a lot of units, but if it fails looks for MS to abandon ship as soon Nintendo makes their announcement for a new console. I can't really predict what Sony will do with the PS4 because they are just now getting into good profit and trying to push 3d games.

It's just that simple.

NO IT WON'T

kinect could sell but nowhere near that it pushes 360 to more 5 years on the market

The PS2 is still alive and kicking. I could easily see the 360 still sell consoles for a few years after the next Xbox console.

Or do you mean new software releases?

the software releases are that keep systems alive

and 360 won't be the same in 2015 as PS2

and its very foolish to compare 360 to a giant PS2 was
