Sony would never do that, it would disable so many feature sof the PS3 it would be unreal.

Music, photos, videos, save back ups etc etc would all be voided features without USB support.

my psp go says hi

and SONY disclaimer also says hi that this is only a downloadable and a new redesigned system

I'm not sure what your getting at

what i am geting at is that you don't have to buy a PSP go if you don't want to so comparing PSP GO to SONY possibly removing usb ports is foolish

I was pointing out to kylie dog that those feauters would not be voided. My very first sentence says that the psp and ds3 will still be able to connect to the ps3 through usb. Pictures, backups, etc will still be possible if you have a psp hence "my psp go says hi"...does anyone fully read the op?

sorry then

i read the OP but then i started posting and then people started an argument

when you said my PSP GO says hi,i though you were mocking it and i had also forgot that you were the OP

LET'S GO KNICKS

In a word: no.

Sure they could write a firmware update that blocks out the USB ports. They could write a firmware that blocks out the HDMI port, or the multi-out port for that matter, making the console for all intents and purposes, useless.

There's no point to either which would effectively cripple the hardware.

There are simpler ways of preventing an external hardware hack based upon an understanding of how a given hack works. To continue to use the hack will essentially boil down to having to use the current firmware on the PS3 and never connecting the console to PSN again, which is crippling enough itself.

Will people do this? Sure. Buy another PS3. Would it have a major effect on PS3 game sales? It all depends on quickly the issue is dealt with.

I know only one thing for sure:

If they block USB, I will just not update my PS3 and actually jailbreak it.

It's been a massive investment to maintain my ps3.

can't really do that. for example if i wanna backup a specific game's save file, i use a usb. if i dun have an internet connection and need to update. i do it on computer and transfer it. there's quite a bit of things the usb port is needed for.

all the things you listed can be done via psp. The usb would be cut off for non ps3 related items

so your saying an update would fix this easily? Would you mind explaining to me how this piracy crap happens, i'm still lost on how disc based games are being converted into digital copies.

After all what I read its not as easy to solve for Sony as it seems. This USB dongle is actually something special i cant remember a case where the hacking route was like this. They activate the debug mode in the retail PS3 and are then able to run unsigned code. That means they can run their own stuff on the PS3.

the people in the psx-scene forum said that its not an exploit but its comparable to a Pandora Battery for PSP. And Sony hasnt found a solution for those batterys.

there is a rumor that those USB sticks are the same which Sony uses themselfs and someone stole it. Actually this is INTENDED by Sony. Its just not intended that someone else gets its hands on it. If thats true then this would be the first time something like that happened.

To the bolded:

Disc based games are digital. Games on Disc are the same like a game on a harddrive the same row of 0 and 1s. (if thats what you were aiming at)
