Forums - Microsoft - Will Microsoft lose the hardcore fans next gen?

Bungie is with activision. Epic is making their final exclusive game for 360 (I could be wrong but think Gears 3 is their last game as an exclusive). Rare is out making kinect games. The only dev making something that i might be interested in is 343 industries. Will Microsoft have to continue to rely on 3rd party exclusives? The only people i can think of that will stay with microsoft are diehard halo fans. SO is Microsoft in trouble with the lack of 1st party studios?

They still have Lionhead Studios and Turn 10.

Those are three big and beloved franchise. Lionhead might eventually move on from the Fable franchise though.

If the 360 continues to do well and bring in the profits you can bet a good deal of those profits will be going into internal studios or purchasing studios.  If Kinect takes off expect big time investment in the division.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Nothing confirmed yet. Only that this is the last Gears game of "this" trilogy, expect more next gen. I doubt Epic will walk, if they didn't care for Sony following the success of the PS2, they won't care with the failure of the PS3.

Being a 4 studio team, I doubt that is all.

No more so then usual. Perhaps even less.

People have been asking that question since 2001. Sony's in last place and 360 1st party games outsell PS3 first party games signifcantly. Whatever they're doing, it worked.

You should probably also note, that last generation, we had no idea Microsoft was also doing / Gears of War/ Blue Dragon/Lost Odyssey/Crackdown/Mass Effect when the Xbox was awaiting Halo 2. They're probably doing the same now for next gen with Studios you never even knew existed.

lol

lol

Microsoft has never been the best at holding on to studios, but they do partnerships will enough

The bigger question is if 3rd party attention gets pulled away from the nextbox, but that'll be hard given the port-everything mentality that we're in, so Microsoft will probably be fine in that regard.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

using Vgchartz own software lookup... list 1000 games ( so it'll list all games available ).. lookup total games for 360 and then PS3... Anyone who looks it up will see.. XB360 games have sold over 100 MILLION more games then the PS3 and they also have more games then the PS3... This means the 360 had a higher attachment rate per console as well.. with the difference in which an extra 7.4 Billion US Dollars went to Xbox 360 developers in sales over the PS3 .... Software developers stay where the money is.. to be honest they aren't very loyal to anyone, which is why so many "exclusives" are from the PS3 have been ported to the XB360...   What hurts 'How many titles are available' is typically if your console sells more or less then other console makers..

Software developers only exist to make money.. they may not be exclusive to PS3 or Xbox or Wii as much as the past.. You're seeing less loyalty because if they can get out of these "exclusive deals" they hope to port ( to other consoles ) and make a bigger profit margin.. Which is one reason I beleive it'll be harder in the future for any one console maker to be as dominate as Sony was back in the PS2 days, in which it faced the N64 as its competition when it launched and didn't face the Game Cube until over a year later.. it wasn't until the PS2 had been out 2 dominating years that it faced the Xbox 1... That was a perfect storm in Sony's favor.. which is one reason among many the PS3 is facing real competition..
