Microsoft Responds to Mass Effect 2 Jumping Ship

Company says Mass Effect 1 remains Xbox 360 exclusive.

Microsoft has responded to today's announcement of Mass Effect 2 coming to PlayStation 3. The game first launched in January 2010 for Xbox 360 and PC, and is now headed to PS3 a year later in January 2011.

"With both Mass Effect titles launching first on Xbox 360 combined with the wealth of available paid downloadable content on Xbox Live today, Xbox 360 remains the best place to experience the Mass Effect franchise," a representative said in a statement given to IGN.

Mass Effect 1, first published by Microsoft in 2007, will remain exclusive to Xbox 360.

"And the original Mass Effect is absolutely an Xbox 360 exclusive, making Xbox 360 the only place to get the full Mass Effect experience," the company added.

Thats true. You have to play mass effect 1 to understand mass effect 2. There is no sense to port only me2... okay its EA, they do it just because of the money.

How is it an Xbox 360 exclusive when it's also on the PC (and arguably in a better version)?

Well I don't think MS or Sony care whether it's on PC or not. All they care that it's only on their console for console versions. Like Sony calls FF XIV, DC Universe all PS3 Exclusives whereas MS calls Fable III, Mass Effect, L4D, etc Exclusives. But remember that they don't neccessarily have to say "Console Exclusive" when they can say "It's an Exclusive".  I'm sure they know it's a "Console" Exclusive but they just wanna call it Exclusive coz it sounds better that way.

I think unless there is something in the PS3 release that at least gives PS3 players the ME1 backstory, then going multiplat isn't going to be all that successful.

Still, I've read book series with very complex and intricate plots and not read the first book in the series but started on the 2nd or 3rd book in the series. Takes a while to get up to speed but it only takes one book to get up to speed with the story and characters well enough. No one is going to convince me that Mass Effect is more intricate and complex than those book series.

I've said before that without ME1 coming to PS3 then I'll skip ME on PS3 and eventually buy a used 360s and play the ME series on 360. But now that I've considered it a bit longer who am I kidding? I'm gonna get ME2 for PS3, I just don't have the patience to wait, and I don't have the money to buy a 360s. ME series was one of the principle reasons for me planning to eventually buy a used 360s. Now that's gone the primary reason to still plan on getting a 360s in the future is the Fable series, and that's certainly not going [console] multi-plat.

lets hope microsoft makes Mass Effect 3 exclusive, that would be hilarious.

It was just confirmed by Ray Muzyka that PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 will have a seamless introduction to the world of Mass Effect.

What's ME 3 got to do with Microsoft? EA are the publishers now.

Here is link on what they are planning to do with story for those that enter the game at ME2.

Wrong. They can make a "cut scene" to tell MA1 history.
