So this is what Sony fans have become. so sad
| raygun said: I love all the posts saying 'when will PS3 catch up to 360?' Imagine 2 cars in a 4 lap car race, and the 360 car gets a 1 lap head start. People are saying the 360 is ahead? Right! Well, to even things out, lets factor in that extra 'lap' of sales, 5.9 million xbox360's in it's first year. You can either minus that from the total 360 sales (42 m) or add it to the PS3 sales (36.6m) to nullify that head start, either way PS3 is ahead, 36m for 360 vs 36.6m for PS3, or 42m 360 vs 42.6m PS3. When a race has staggered starting of the contestants, you don't look at who's nearest the finish line, but their distance/time for the race so far. |
i've benn saying that for so long. now watch out for the hellstorm? brace for impact in 5,4,3,2,1

Whenever the next generation starts, everybody but the market leader stops selling really really fast. Happens every generation. It happened with NES, SNES, PS1, PS2, and GBA. It'll happen with the DS and the Wii as well. |
Sony already stated they want to support it longer than usual, as long as their PS3 income stays higher then the exploitation cost, not being market leader doesnt pose any problem. They should be easily able to do so with a 199$ price point when the time comes. Also, its not like before when things were advancing so fast and it wasnt possible to do software updates. PS3 already have the next mass media and technology even tough it was release in 2006. If Microsoft or Nintendo, wants to release something that will make PS3 looks last gen and be somewhat affordable, they need to wait a couple years. A 2000$ computer doesnt even make either 360 or PS3 look last gen.
I dont want to start anything and this might not have anything to do with this but... It is a Japanese law that states Sony ( not specifically) must have the numbers for how many ps3's were manufactured. Microsoft records their numbers by how many xbox 360's were shipped (American Laws). Now put two and two together and tell me what you think. And oh yeah, please don't bash on Microsoft, they started alot of awesome things in the past years. BTW, Sony and Nintendo havebenn in the gaming business for several generations while microsoft has only been here for two. And I think they are pretty good at it for being new.
I am one of the 1 million that pre-ordered Halo: Reach...Are you?
I think fightning over which console is better is stupid, they are both good consoles with some ups and downs.

Both is shipped, at least the number we have here. Both sony and microsoft have japanese and american instances where they need to abid by the law of the specific country. Anyway, both is shipped...

I'm just surprised that xbox360 is still selling so well.
Who knew? really? I thought we would have xbox720 by now.
I know PS3 will be around more a long time, but how much longer can xbox360 go?

you're over-simplifying things, though. What if the Xbox spent as much money and time on development costs as the PS3? the 360 entered development LATER than the PS3, and made it to market a year in advance. Sony could have easily developed a slightly less advanced console, and had it to market alongside the 360. But instead, they chose to experiment. Everyone expected them to win the generation starting out, and they clearly had the strongest brand. TO use your analogy - the race began at the launch of the first console in the generation, the PS3 essentially used a prototype car that stalled at the starting line. They were even first in the qualifiers, but their competitor swerved around them and raced past in a smaller cheaper car. The PS3 should have been able to close the gap, but a series of bad decisions early on limited their potential.
