Forums - General - How to Survive in the USA

So I'll be flying over to the United States of America next week for College and although I'm not expecting to see a person from Australia who's been living in the US to tell me this, I was wondering if some Americans here give some tips on how to survive in the US. Things like how to do certain things, some slangs/phrases I could say or definitely shouldn't say that would be offensive in any way, etc.

Just some general info about the US.

Your help will be appreciated :D

It depends on where your going. I live in Georgia (south if you didn't know), but when I visit my family in New York it's a completely different culture. I can barely understand their accent, don't know their slang, and generally have no idea what anyone is talking about. Though if you're gonna be in the deep south, I'd be glad to help.

I'll be headed to New Jersey so pretty much New York as well.

Just be nice. Otherwise you don't have much to worry about. The U.S.A isnt like GTA4 makes it look. Lol.

Be careful with what you eat. They eat so badly.

I'm a nice guy so I don't think I won't get on the bad side of people or give bad first impressions but I'm just seeking some advice as to things I shouldn't say that may be an offensive statement to Americans just in case.

lol no I mean the food (mostly in restaurants) is very salty and fat and the meals are so huge. Everytime I go to the US, I come back being disgusted of eating.
