Pretty much what's already been said. I think they're doing better than last gen honestly, for me anyways. The only ones I remember loving/really liking from them was DQVIII, FFX, FFX-2. I don't like kingdom hearts at all really.. (just played the first one)

I will list the ones I've played. I have not played DQIX yet, or Chaos Rings which are some of their best reviewed games this gen. There's the remakes, but those don't really count.

TWEWY, is better than most of their older games imo. My favorite game this gen. And probably one of the more unique titles this gen a long with demon soul's
Crisis Core was great as well.
FFXIII, was great imo... though there is a high people disliking it. But, that's not what matters
Dissidia, Wass much better than the ps1 similar thing ehergeiz. Though I still don't particularly like it that much. it's plenty enjoyable.
Last Remnant ... tried the demo on pc, didn't like so much... maybe I will play give it more time if it gets cheap and there are new games.

Plus if they don't screw up deus ex or versus(my favorite series besides FF)... it'll probably be my favorite gen by them. (I consider PSone era being the best... with this gen currently tied with snes gen (which I didn't from them as much as everybody else) for me) as their number 2

exctly S-E's last gen wsnt vry gud imo

this one is bettr and with kh3/versus 13 it will for sure be bettr imo

I wish they could return to what they were during the SNES and PSX eras.

Squaresoft:

Chrono Trigger (and Cross. Take that haters!), Final Fantasy, Saga games that didn't suck, Secret of Mana, Parasite Eve (I will do something immoral if 3rd birthday turns out to be crap), Vagrant Story, Musashi plus some I've forgot and a whole bunch of great games that never left Japan.

I wish Square-Enix would release Bahamut Lagoon and the other Japan-only games on PSN/Live/WW...

Enix:

Star Ocean, Dragon Quest, Terranigma, Actraiser, Valkyrie Profile (Where da f*** is my VP3!?), Ogre Battle. I feel like I forgot some true gems but it's late. I'm sleepy.-_-

Edit:

I forgot Xenogears. *cries*

They still have kingdom hearts....

They need to fire Wada and Toriyama and bring back Nobuo Uematsu and Hironobu Sakaguchi-san back!

DQIX is their best JRPG this gen for me.

I concur.

Despite the criticisms Square enix has received I have enjoyed their games.  Final Fantasy 13, Infinite Undiscovery, Star Ocean The Last Hope, Final Fantasy Crisis Core, and Dissidia Final Fantasy were all good at least to me.  The two portable titles were the weakest games in my opinion probably because they were not a main final fantasy title.

That's what happens when you force out the man whose visions made Square so great (Sakaguchi). Now they have lost their mojo and probably won't ever get it back. The only good games coming out of Square are being developed by Level-5.

Their PSP division has put out some solid titles though, but not up to the old Square standard.

whatever happened to the days where SE actually made good AAA games...  the only thing SE looks like they can do correctly now are rehashes from their glory days... :(

Hironobu Sakaguchi is gone.

Squenix, in my eyes, has had this problem for a while. There is the occasional good game that comes out from them, but I think that Square started going down the wrong road late in its life. (Yes, I'm referencing Square pre-merger with that.) They discovered that with marketing and graphics, that they were able to increase sales of their flagship title. (Despite the fact that it was Sony doing the marketing...) And since marketing wasn't handled by them, they fell back on what they did- graphics. Everything else took a hit, key people from Square left, and things went to hell. Then came the merger, and surprise, surprise... those crappy decisions hit a few Enix games also.

But I'm glad I think they fell earlier than most would say. It led me to finding my new favorite company: Atlus. (And thus, I must also highly disagree with Atlus quality going down.) It's a small company (relative to Squenix), with smaller budgets, who have to make actual games that stand on the gameplay. Sure, they don't sell like FF. But they're not expected to. And that leads them to today's market- they are still doing plenty. As a Japanese company, they have to look at their home market, where the portables reign supreme. Sure, they released a lot last gen- but that's because they were able to reuse assets and engines, and had one system. Now there are more viable options, so more time is being spent learning more systems' architectures, designing and porting over assets, and factoring costs to publish on the different systems to expected sales. Their smaller budgets have led to the less powerful systems- where you don't need to compete with all the graphics-intensive games. And I'll stop there before I go into my graphics tirade...

I know what you are going to say! Why ignore handhelds? Well...we are not all suited for handhelds. That is all.

Uhh, and that argument can't be made for consoles as well? That doesn't mean we should ignore them...
