honestly people had high expectations, seece and selnor had countless threads about how its going to have the best graphics and how its going to be a killer app. they were all disappointed.

Um. Alan Wake is the only game that I give 10/10.

It's also the best Lighting, environments and weather effects of any game out there.

2ndly, the OP is so far off the mark saying that the woods environments could be done on the Wii. That is a blatant troll statement. As those visuals for the scenery have not been surpassed.

The only reason Alan Wake was ever downed on graphics was due to character models and some daytime textures. All the stuff the OP downs on Digital Foundry and most people said it was the best on. So I'm not sure what this very late article is trying to achieve.

dont lie selnor, if you go back to the thread you evens aid that you were disapointed.

What?

No I didn't.

Seece reviewed the game for VGC and gave it 9 something.

I put my own Review up of the game on this very site. And it was the first time I gave any game a 10 this gen. How do you explain the following article I wrote? On 21 of May 2010.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=109755

you had a thread which will counts the amount of times a reviewer says "alan wake has the best graphics" we have see this gen. after a week of reviews you came and said its i was wrong, it doesnt have the best graphics this gen. you didnt say that you were disapointed but when someone has such high expectations and in one department those expectations are delivered. then that person will be disapointed.

i dont know if you remember but their was also a thread for the meta critic score, and you and seece predicted it would get in the 90s. i dont remember the exact values.

Yeah I said I was wrong that " Other reviewers " didnt give it best graphics of the gen.

How does that show I was disappointed?

I also remember the Meta thread to. Do you know that for whatever reason over 20 perfect scores are missing from Meta for Alan Wake?

Anyways, my personal opinion of the game surpassed it's hype. And it's the best game of the genre by far. It's quite wrong that mainstream media give Resi 5 above 90 and not to Alan Wake. When it's clear Resi 5 disappointed everyone. Hell go through my Live friends and you see everyone with about 90 Gamerscore for Resi 5. But over 500 for Alan Wake. Shows that people never bothered finishing Resi 5.

Alan Wake achieved what it set out to do. Make me hooked. Also to many reviewers were way to harsh on the graphics side of Alan Wake.

Many ( I'll use IGN as an example ) said the lighting was the best out there. Said the effects were the best out there. Said the open world draw distance was amazing. They only had some gripes with some low res textures on some daytime scenes and some low poly characters with odd lipsyncing. Now knowing the game as I do, those things are minor compared to what the game has graphically. Yes Alan Wake 2 will undoubtedly fix these grpahics as Remedy have an extra 30% power to play with on their engine for Alan Wake 2. It will be very much like Uncharted 1 and 2. 1 was about as good as the rest around with some hiccups in graphics. 2 ironed them out and found the balance with the same engine. That in essence is how Alan Wake 2 will pan out.

Anyways. Alan Wake had an amazing story, awesome tension and fantastic visuals. It had me glued from start to finish and Silent Hill and Resi need to take note. Because Remedy beat you guys.

point taken.

atleast i can say you were disapointed that the reviewers were harsh, and i agree with you.

Playing on Nightmare isn't going to make you like the game more, on my brief replay I only noticed more flaws than I did on my first play through.

@Selnor: Please don't overrate the game so much, I can understand if you loved it and that's fine, but when someone overlooks all it's flaws and then tries and defend the game it only makes the game worse in my eyes because it cannot defend itself based on its own merits. That other guy was wrong for calling you out, just don't get baited so easily.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

I blame Selnor for the failure. Every single game he hypes fall from expectations. I just hope he leaves Crysis 2 and Killzone 3 alone.

If I wanted to I could find a HUGE amount of flaws in any game. Halo 3? Yep. Killzone 2? Yep. Uncharted 1 and 2? Hell Yep. Gears 1 and 2 OF course yep.

And big issues to. In all these games.

Now the thing is, do the good points make you forget these issues?

With Alan Wake there were no issues to me. Why? Because I was having FUN. It was sucking me in. I had to keep going without realising it.

I'm sure if I wasnt enjoying the game I would see the flaws. But I didnt. I'm sorry that the game is worse in your eyes because it's great in mine.

Think about this, why would I give Alan Wake a 10 and not give Mass Effect 2 or Halo 3 a 10? Why? If I didnt genuinely love the game?

Games are a perception. And in the particular genre Alan Wake is in it wins it hands down. People talk of repetitive. Resident Evil and Silent Hill are 2 of the most repetitive games in history. With puzzles that have nothing to do with surviving and break the pace of the games.

I cant help it my friend. Alan Wake is the most important game to me this gen so far.

You have probably played every game out there to know that... right? Seriously, you can say that it's the game with the most impressive visuals you have played or perhaps on X360, but don't always make comments like this. I'm really getting tired of people who judge graphics of games on consoles they don't even own.

And who are those most people?

OT: I haven't played Alan Wake yet, but I plan to buy it when there is a cheap offer somewhere. So I can't comment about that.

I'm not gonna drag this out. It's silly arguing about visuals when Devs like Bungie are showing there is far more to power than simple visuals and 10 enemies.

But the lighting is awesome. The draw distance amazing and the effects are just awesome to. I guess you will see when you play the game.

Of course it's silly, but why do you do that all the time then? And you can talk about visuals or scale of games, but you do that to often about games you haven't played or don't even have the console to play it. Saying that it's impressive is ok, but not saying that it surpasses everything else on the market.

I didnt say overall. I said about the points I pointed out.

I'm not having the best of weeks in my personal life, so I dont really want to talk on this right now. Sorry. I'd rather just agree with you. :)

Even if you only say that about some points, it's still ridiculous.

And I don't want you to agree with me, you should keep your own opinion. I just say you (and many other people out there, and I'm not talking only about 360 fans, same for PS3 fans here) should stop making silly comments like you did about quality of graphics.
