Forums - Sony - Playstation Move handholding coming to stores September 11

Don't worry about walking into your local Best Buy this fall and not being able to figure out how to use the PlayStation Move game kiosk -- Sony is hiring and training representatives for a nationwide in-store retail campaign.

Sources that wish to remain anonymous have passed along details of employment opportunities for representatives to assist in what is referred to as "the second largest product launch in PlayStations' history." The demo program will have trainees working kiosks in retailers like Best Buy and Walmart, assisting potential customers with the usage of Move, showing off features, and answering questions about the product which ships on September 19. The demos -- scheduled for peak retail traffic hours -- are said to start on September 11 and last through 2011, ending in late January.

Sony Computer Entertainment America will be dispatching specialist to provide some seven hours of Move training to candidates it hopes will already have a base knowledge of Sony's consoles, as well as its competition. Think you've got what it takes? Keep you ear to the ground in your area -- local sales and marketing teams are hiring now, with training beginning in late August.

If true, this is by far the best kind of marketing they can make for that product. Showing it on TV will look Wii rip off even tough it is not one. Having people try it with a Move salesmen in an environment known by the consumer is a good idea. The Move salesmen will be able to explain the differences between Wii and Move and consumers will be able to see for themselves. The salesmen will be bias since they arent working for the store, which will help hyping the product. I can easily figure the product having big success during the holiday if market that way.

If they're only starting the 11th of September, that's a bit late imho. They should start earlier, as Kinect is already trying to win minds of the audience. Move needs to kick into gear faster.

yeah, but kinect & MOVE aren't really direct competitors.

I dont think they need the same type of marketing. I guess Sony thinks (I think so too) that Move will receive good word of mouth from users. Plus, I think its hard to demonstrate the difference between Move and Wii with 30-60 seconds commercial. Also, its not a 150$ camera. As a consumer, when you look at Move package you seem to be getting more for your money. Which isnt neccesarily the case. But in my opinion, a controller, a cam and a game for 100$ will looks a better value then a special cam and a game at 150$ for most consumers. Microsoft knows that, its why they are doing so much marketing, to show value in their cam. Two different types of marketing for two different products.
