So I just sold my ps3 and got an xbox 360, and obviously i need to get a halo. I played halo 3 like every day when it came out on my friends 360, so I thought ok i'll just just that. But the talk about ODST is confusing. 

Basically, I really don't care that much about the campaign, as i've beaten the halo 3 campaign twice already, so it would seem that the smart choice would be to get ODST, since it has all of the halo 3 maps, correct??? (excuse all the commas lol)

But, do the two games have cross play? As in, if i get ODST, and play on a halo 3 map online, do I just play with ODST players, or can i play with the players from halo 3 as well? This is important since halo 3 sold 11 million plus a lot of my friends have it. 

NEED HELP THANKSSS :D

Get ODST. It has all the maps and does allow for cross play with Halo 3 multiplayer, because it's exactly the same multiplayer. Plus, you get to try out firefight if you want before Reach comes out.

Ok thanks a ton that exactly what i hoped for with the cross play. And with firefight, isn't that kind of like gears of 2 hoard mode??

Yeah a little bit. It's got a Halo twist on it though in that skulls (that crank up the difficulty) are activated on the AI as you get farther and farther. The maps are a lot larger than the Gears 2 ones too. The only downside is ODST has no firefight matchmaking, which Reach will have.

Yes. But Firefight is better.

Yeah as the manwithnoname said get ODST it has everything you need and firefights a nice bonus. However firefight doesn't have any online matchmaking and can just be played with people on your friends list.

Definitely ODST.....but just warning you, unless your really good at Halo it probably won't be too much fun since virtually everyone who plays that game is just ridiculous these days (at least in my recent experiences)

In the ranked playlists, I agree. Social slayer is usually full of noobs though, or it was the last time I played it a few months ago.

Yeah I pretty much only play Team Slayer and Team Snipers (Team Snipers is especially violent) now that I think about it the last DE weekend I played in (maption sack I believe) was pretty easy.
